we all watch and say how great this or that guitarist is when they do justice to a hendrix tune, most of which are copy covers. think, how great hendrix must have been to create such a tune that guitarists still try to copy/ play. when this tune was played at fillmore hendrix was likely improvising and this is what came out of it. and at the time they nicknamed another guitarist god??? even today listening to hendrix play these tunes is mind blowing, as it was when they first were created. hendrix was a genius spanning time, so long as electric guitars exist..this kind of creativity is to this day unparalled..

I wish guitarists seeking for the perfect Hendrix-in-a-box gear would just sit and listen to what Adam does with almost nothing but his fingers, a great guitar, and a great amp. Such a delicious sound!

It is astonishing this doesn’t have more views . It floors me how deep Rogers has metabolized a hendrixian vibe here. It’s better than any “ impersonation “ - it’s not a colection of his licks- the reverence is clear

To quote a rather accomplished jazz muso . . . "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing"
@georgeabbott7536 жыл бұрын
maybe it's not supposed to be swinging
@tigerchako6 жыл бұрын
Ok maybe no problem to each his own
@georgeabbott7536 жыл бұрын
well.. my point was that if it's not supposed to be swinging, it shouldn't be qualified by whether it's swinging or not. obviously.. not all music is supposed to have a swing feel.
@tigerchako6 жыл бұрын
I don't know how you know what he was going for, but of course, people can play what they like, and you can like whatever you like. Regardless of genre, players that best convey emotion and melodies tend to be the most successful, throughout history. From Wagner to Brahms to Stevie Ray V. to Billie Holiday. It's never just been about the notes. Duke knew a little something about music too, BTW, maybe even more than Adam Rodgers.
@georgeabbott7536 жыл бұрын
duke's famous comment is not necessarily relevant. neither is whether he knew more about music. as i said before, if it's not meant to swing, qualifying it by quoting duke is still beside the point. "players that best convey emotion and melodies tend to be the most successful" is not necessarily correct and is definitely subjective.

I think adam was a little annoyed with the bass player toward the end of the song.

It's a tune that's on his new album, Dice, and it's called "Sea Miner", hence the confusion about it's being untitled. The album is completely amazing.

I see your point about the warm-up, but Metheny recently has released a book of etudes and as a guitarist (let's face it no one listens to this music except us guitarists and very intellectual people, as I realize from having 3 kids who can't stand my jazz guitar) this is a great thing to transcribe and learn from and I'm inspired from it as much or more than him playing on a standard. Appreciate that it is here because 10 years ago you couldn't have had this unless you brought a tape recorder to his gig yourself.
