I, too, have this planer. It has served me quite well. I found a site that says they have Shelix helical blades for the PC305TP, $457.00. That may sound like a lot but, considering the significant improvement in cut and that it will lengthen the life of the planer, it's probably worth it. I agree the snipe is pretty bad. Cut a 12-1/2" x 6' piece of melamine. about 18"-24" from one end, attach a 1"x1" piece of hardwood. Be sure it is perfectly perpendicular to the side of the melamine. Insert this on your planer bed with the blocker board at the feed end. This will make a perfectly smooth feed bed for whatever you're planing. The melamine assures a smooth feed and the block makes sure the melamine stays in place. The length gives a lot of room for feed longer pieces of wood. I set my planer on a folding table on my driveway and put my wheel barrow at the outfeed end. Most of the chips go in the wheelbarrow and a sweep of my arm sends a lot more in it. I then take anywhere in the yard that I want wood chips. Check that the type of wood you're planing is not toxic to your garden and yard. Pine is one that should just go in the garbage. I think some doors with shelving on the front would be good there. It would make the laundry room like a hidden room.

I beg to differ. Polyurethane will yellow over time. So if you want to seal a light colored wood or seal a white/light colored paint. It WILL end up yellowing and on some items it will even have a tinge of orange to it. Polycrylic does NOT yellow over time.
@Angaloth19 Жыл бұрын
The greatest thing for me about polycrylic is that you can have a matte finish, and it doesn’t yellow!! I love it. I would pay double for it if I needed to.

Great video! Hey do you have any suggestions on what might be best for my project....it's a painted ice chest/cooler. It's been covered 100% in acrylic art paint as it has paintings all over the entire cooler. I need it to be durable as this cooler will actually get used. Also need it to be UV stable and not yellow. Initially I was going to epoxy it but epoxy yellows and being art I need this to stay clear, also I was afraid it might be hard to do the sides and it not run down. I was thinking maybe water based Spar Urethane, maybe Polycrylic, maybe a durable spray paint. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Ditto on every point you made, except for the one about making money on your projects, lol. I built a flip-top stand for mine because its just too heavy to move around and store. I also got that Delta dust hood which was expensive but fits perfectly and works well. Snipe is an ongoing issue. I try the end-to-end trick @RPGallagher mentioned but the feed is so fast on this thing I can't move fast enough. So I made a sled where I can wedge scrap before and after the workpiece to take the snipe. But because I am an idiot my sled had a screw sticking out and I ran it through about 2 dozen times before I noticed the planer bed was gouged.

I love the look of the kinetic door. If you went smaller, like a jewelry box kenetic door, would that work better?. Your kenetic laundry room door is beautiful, more so after you put hinges on it and connected the pieces.

Wondering if polycrylic is what caused my severe headache when I used it. I’m afraid of it now. Any idea? It didn’t smell like it had fumes so I didn’t use a mask. I used it on my clay jewelry. What say you? Is it possible the polycrylic could have cased that migraine?
@ecivilized2336 Жыл бұрын
Good morning. Certain odors cause me migraines also. There is some off gassing with polycrylic. You can buy a cheap respirator from harbor freight or vent a fan to a window.

I got that stuff because I have a cheap particle board bartop with a fake marble print on it. I wanted to make sure it would last. Lots of learning with that. Along the way I think I got some metal cleaner on it and it seemed to wear a hole in it. I put a few more layers on since then correcting other problems. You need to always keep a wet edge, you need to apply it with something that does not shed into it, like my first layers did. And also it tends to have bubbles when rolling.

Howd it go?
@MatthewSuffidy9 ай бұрын
@@NeanderthalDogma Mostly it went well but there is some flaking off of it near the sink where the water got in. Also like I was saying when I got the metal cleaner on it I think it ate a hole, so I never use it anywhere near it.

It looked kinda of high, but you said the mailman wanted it a little higher. Awesome. We installed the same box on the post that came with it. It was more work because it called for a small concrete base. We reinforced the square base with concrete going down a two foot hole. The instructions were vague and I didnt think an 11" x 14" by 6-10 inch high concrete pad would sustain the weight of the mailbox. I like your 4x4 post idea instead. -Thanks

Can you use poly acrylic under epoxy
@denizencarpentry41153 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm I don’t know. Most of the time clear coats don’t mix well. Since most clear coats require them to adhere to the layer beneath them. If the chemical makeup of a clear coat is different than what it’s going on it won’t work.
@denizencarpentry41153 жыл бұрын
So to be “clear”( sorry had to) you are trying to put epoxy if something that already has a poly acrylic coating on it?
