I’m a 13 year old girl, and I just started to read the book collaboration from both of you. I’ve only read the 1st few pages about how this book came to be, and I’m already captivated in its storytelling. Im not sure if either of you will ever see this message, but nonetheless, great job!

Halfway through the book, the entire time he compares people to demonic idealism, stripping it of christianity or any former religion but takes an atheist approach. He makes the argument that people's interpretation of demonic and evil origin comes from the human race. Although he strips God out, I think he makes a fair point there is immoral and moral with the human psyche. I would read the book to be fair. Not to be a tyrannical Christian, I did find the constant good vs.evil irritating because it felt small minded. Heclearly showed knowledge on Catholic doctrine. I could see how Christians could feel attacked, I would have liked if he took a psychological approach rather than a historical approach, the anthropological part was interesting because it pulled on common threads of the human psyche though. I don't think it was more persuasion but his attempt to express that humanity as much as it is good can be evil and all of which is ironically biblical. Can't remember the bible verse, however it went something like ' man is dust made flesh, and to the dust he shall return' referencing God's superiority over the world. It seems ironic to me coming from someone who is an atheist may have shed light not only the devil's psyche but of the evils of men that the bible warns of but in only the most modern sense. It made me consider that true evil is in fact indifference and the fall of men and angels is the lack of care or concern for what is good and put themselves before God. This directly can be lead in to modern consumerism, over consumption, the environment, and what it does to the people's lives affected by these decisions in the most noon day devil way. In this way if lead by fear (which he warns as the most dangerous) I could see where one might look to what is stripped of the warnings of the bible if their Christian. To be honest I can't see this book leading to socialism or communism or eugenics because in this nihilistic view, all humans are capable of non human thought or the idea of an in human pure evil and for this it would be hard for one to trust the government because trust ultimately would be viewed as a deception. Anarchy and a survivalist mode of thinking where chaos may always be the constant would be more like it.

I'm a constitutional libertarian, except I think we can afford universal healthcare, social safety nets, and tax progressivity. I believe these are necessary to maintain a low crime level, and to truly allow for equality of opportunity. I do not believe in guaranteeing "equality of outcome". We can have *some* social programs w/o abandoning free markets.
@buffuniballer3 жыл бұрын
And I'm all for having some of that as optional. I.E. if you want Government Health care, fine, sign up. The program funds itself and doesn't have to transfer money from those not participating. Ditto for things like Social Security. If you think it's a great idea, voluntarily sign up. But seldom are these programs pitched as "you can choose this." They are pitched as "you must support this" in the name of someone's idea of the greater good. I have no problem with such programs. I have a problem making it everyone's job to "contribute" even if it's against their values or best interests. The programs need to be good enough that they will draw voluntary participation. If you have to pass a law making participation mandatory, how good will the program really be? Progressive taxation, not so much. If you are paying a 10% marginal rate and I'm paying a 25% marginal rate, we are being treated unequally. One of our founding principles is equal before our government. A flat tax is the only tax system where everyone is equal before the government. Progressive systems are legalized inequality. If you feel you should pay more, I'd never seek to prohibit you from sending in more than your equal percentage. But to rule that others should pay more because you, or even 50%+1 thinks they should is the opposite of equality and fairness. It's the tyranny of the majority.

You guys are giving the occupy Wall Street turds too much credit (intellect). The reason they are hard to place on the chart is that their positions aren’t their own. In other words, they have no idea why they believe they way they do. They are just lazy opportunists who are being used by smarter people on both extremes of the chart.

Central problem here is the misconception that the inheriant good within people for doing the right thing comes from a belief. A belief in an untruth that can easily be explained. I think what MG is looking at is insecurity of man. Giving up to your biggest weakness of not knowing

Is Beck ever stupid and the point about past presidents not calling themselves Christians. Every atheist knows this. Christians have enjoyed the majority position for so long that they didn’t need to pay attention to facts and they see that as human rights are fought for and society changes they see their hold on the majority power slipping and that’s seen as being oppressed. How ironic. For millennia they have been the oppressors and when an inch of power is taken back, they scream oppression
@billkeon8805 жыл бұрын
The gay rights issue is not about progressives being oppressive, authoritarian and shutting down free speech. It’s a fucking Human Rights issue god damn it. Beck and chowder heads made the same argument back in the 50s and 60s about race. The racists in the south said “don’t impose your way of life and politically correct speech about race mixing”

Beck is someone that can have a conversation like this about all coming together as constitutionalists and as peoplem, then turn around and talk shit about the LGBT community(gay marriage, transgender rights, etc) as well as point at the usual Republican-centric villains(video games, tv, music, etc) and make everyone involved in those things out to be evil or left-wing nutjobs. He says what he thinks will make him money. He doesn't actually believe the things he says, and I say this as someone who used to listen to him every day and believed he was a moral person who was, at times, simply misguided. He's not. He knows what he's doing. He's rich because of it.
@pultulf24625 жыл бұрын
If you differenciate between left and right you have to differenciate between ideology and regimes. The communist ideology has very little to do with communist regimes. Also the nazi ideology had many characteristics of the left. What you get from this, is that a political specrum is more like 2 dimensional than one dimensional. It just cannot be described by "left" or "right".
