To be honest, the 600 pf does not make sense given the price. I have shot both extensively and really cannot justify the cost given the benefits, if it was a 600 f5.6 yes but at f6.3? Plus looking at the footage and the use of the focus area, the 180-600 is going to be slower and less accurate on the distance and focus speed. This is where you have to fall back on small area to cut out the background and this is where skill counts vs just leave it to the camera to sort out the focus. The prime is light and easy to handle. If you want the best African wildlife kit then the 180-600 on a Z8/Z9 with a 70-180 f2.8 and 24-120f4 with a Z6iii as second body is a killer combination. The more expensive is the Z8/9 and Z6iii with 600 pf f6.3, the 100-400 and the 24-120f 4. Price a massive difference on the lenses and you going to jump between the 600 and 100-400 a lot. If you are a dedicated bird photographer, the 600 pf make sense where you want all the fine feather details. But it comes at a big price compared to the 180-600. With the marginal IQ difference and same f stop, I would take flexibility over the small IQ gain.

The prime has better contrast, superb microcontrast, sharper, better color rendition. Faster AF. The 180-600 you cannot use a filter, not even a Nikon 95mm NC filter otherwise the IQ suffers terribly. 180-600 is not a sharp lens, unfortunately. 😢

I have an OM-1 that I purchased new in 1972. Always loved the camera and lens but found the cost of film and processing at the time inhibited the process. I would like to shoot a roll or two with this camera but of course the light meter no longer works due to the mercury battery availability. It defeats the purpose having to pull out my xt5 to get a light reading. Sadly and to rub salt into the wound my Gossin luna6 light meter from the same era uses two of the exact same battery. Thanks for the video, inspiring.

Well over the weekend I ran into a Sony shooter. I showed him that my ISO changes how many frames per second I get. He said his Sony camera doesn't do that. He actually showed it to me that it doesn't do that and it took a picture without any blackout. Didn't really impress me because the obstacle viewfinder or the EVF was on the left side I like my picture centered. My 90D rules

I started with the Fuji F7000 (basically a mirrorless camera). From there I moved on to Nikon d70, then used smartphones to return to Nikon d5300 as I missed being able to zoom really in and have good pictures. When I saw a deal, I bought the Nikon z50. But, after some use, I sold it last week to buy a used Nikon d780 that had less than 5000 shots. Why? Because I like the feeling of the real viewfinder, not the tele in the viewfinder. In addition, the camera has very good video features. And I can use my older lenses without starting from zero. I agree that the 51 focus points are all in the middle of the optical viewfinder. I think Nikon partially intended this camera as an upgrade for APS-C photographers (like I was) because, when you have an APS-C lens on the d780, the whole DX frame is filled with the focus points. Disadvantage: I lose many pixels, and thus smaller pictures.

I've been capturing images for decades. My first 35mm camera was the Olympus OM10 ( a real newbies camera), & thereafter, graduated to the OM1N - it still shoots fantastic images, & in fact I won a photographic competition with it ( a proud moment). Over the years I've amassed a collection of SLR Nikons, lenses, as well as two DSLR's (also Nikon)...I haven't transitioned to Mirrorless - I consider the technology is still in its adolescence with that format. I'm a massive B & W film stock fan - Ilford - try Pan F ISO 50 for long exposures, Agfapan APX ISO 25 - if you can get hold of it still in date; even if you cannot, it's still very usable, but on the pricier side. Kodak TMAX 3200 for ultimate graininess - it's not actually 3200 but designed to be pushed for that gritty aesthetic. I've used this film to turn back the clock of London to the Second World War Blitz (obviously, excluding any modern day imagery, so I focus (sic) on churches, Edwardian/Georgian architecture, parks etc). For myself, Monochrome rules. Approximately, one in thirty thousand individuals across the globe are only able to see in monochrome - & that's mostly men - everyone else possess both colour & B & W light sensitive cells on their retinas. Consider translating all the colour you see on any, one given day into greyscale - & retaining that ability whilst out & about with your analogue camer; it took me a few months, in my callow youth to train my brain....now, I still retain that monochromatic aptitude when required, & it makes such a difference to my compositions. I do like your presentation style, so I've subscribed. Keep on keeping on.... Aindriu (Andrew)

It may not have a traditional IBIS system however the active stabilization mode is brilliant and when paired with the new 16-50 OSS lens you won't have any trouble with getting stable shots handheld. I managed to get super stable footage using my non OSS 24mm 1.4GM while using active stability mode. And if you know what you're doing, pairing all of this with a stabilizer in your editing suite (personally I use Da Vinci) then you will have even better stabilization! So there are a lot of work arounds 😁

I'm glad Canon listened after all the R5 reviews and fixed mostly all the issues eg edges wobble, overheating, proxy card recording, full HDMI, ext monitor simultaneous rec, Cinema profiles , SLog2, etc. Now this R5 mk2 can confidently compare with the likes of Sony when it comes to video.

I think its very refreshing that Canon in the midst of all the competetion have chosen to refine perfection rather rhan reinvent. It underlies a powerful confidence from the brand but more importanty it doesnt age the 1st generation versions so you left feeling sidelined. Thats important for those that have invested big previously

I'm an old guy who got back into film photography after a three decade hiatus several years ago (I developed my first roll of film in 1966) and I have certainly made just about every mistake in the book. Regarding accidental tripping of the shutter there is one camera I have which has a different, although related problem. My Mamiya Universal is a camera in which it is all too easy to make accidental double exposures as there is no interlock between film advance and cocking the shutter. Each must be done separately. So in this case I advance the film as soon as I have tripped the shutter, but I wait till I'm ready to take another exposure before I cock the shutter. Oh, and I have to remember to take the dark slide out of the film back before using (and putting it back in before changing the lens or removing the back! I've made both those mistakes). It's a beast of a camera but I love it. So I guess an additional rule is "learn the idiosyncrasies of your cameras!"

Since you are talking about editing it would be great to have the names of the editors of each film you are using as an example instead of only the director and the dop. Editors are an essential part of the creative process so we need to know who they are.

Just love this Lens ...Took it to the Woodlands of NC USA it nail the focus on a quick small warblers with 2x Telconverter and still razor sharp . Kepps details better in Long distance shots for ID shots of a Seabirds who often are far out ...Both 1.4 and 2.0 TC works and i can not see much diff in sharpness.Super fast lens and focus much faster then my old 300mm f2.8 and even usable for great landscapes shots..Just love it and i have the RF800mm F11 which is quite nice in the right Light cond and also the 100-500mm but this Lens is the winner as the background and foreground blur makes the Object you are shooting outstanding ...Wurth it ? for me it is Yes as like you said in your Video sitting in and drive ferrari this is a good Compair as it feels nice to work with this lens and it is super solid weather sealed and ready for a rough situation ...I just love it i got the only one in Iceland so far and here the Summer lights are nice but we have short period of light and in the autumn and winter it is very lack of light so f2.8 + high ISO makes it easier for me and btw i use it with Canon R 6 Mark II and put a Battery grip on it as it works faster with two batteries as the second focus motor does not get enough energy from one batteri
