Won a lot more than Revie. Revie was cold and dull like most Leeds fans
@berlinwhite4 жыл бұрын
@@snads8415 Only with Taylor as his sidekick though. Revie would (and should) have in fact won a lot more if it had not been for bad luck (e.g. F.A. cup finals 1970 and 1973), biased F.A. and utterly bent refs (European Cup Winners Cup 1973, European Cup 1975). What regards the "cold and dull" fans: LOL! Best support in England (especially away). By quite a distance, too. Proper late 1980s/early 1990s atmosphere, not the sanitized middle-class/tourist shite you get in most PL grounds these days.

Many years ago.. 1985.. Was at White Hart Lane.. Spurs vs Coventry.. Glenn Hoddle back from injury yet quickly enough l was drawn to City's left full.. Bloke had it all.. Sansom was never as good.. A Londoner. Stuart Pearce and Cloughie snapped him up for 300 grand.. Peanuts even back then.. Brilliant football man R. I. P Mister Brian Howard Clough.

My grandparents used to live on Olivier Street in Derby which ran parallel to The Baseball Ground where Derby County used to play. Cloughie decided that the players needed more parking space, and it was agreed that the only way to create the space needed was to knock the houses down in Olivier Street, and somehow Cloughie and the council managed to persuade all the residents it was the right thing to do. Olivier Street was no more. I kid you not, in Derby, Brian Clough was loved more than any other for what he'd achieved with our football club, and even today most would not have a bad word said against him. When you are quoted as saying "The biggest mistake I ever made was leaving Derby County", at this end of the A52 (now 'Brian Clough Way') that's going to endear you to many for a very long time to come...🙂👍 🐑 🐑 🐑

He was always going to be a success (and its obvious he could have been a successful CEO of a company outside football if he wanted to because he had all the attributes) whatever era he was a manager because he had the quick mind, flair, intelligence, insight, humour and charisma. The ability to read the game and players (Dave McKay not needing to break a sweat ( and he was right he didn't need to, what a master stroke to bring him in!) stands out and the confidence you need that young man, you need to believe in yourself to be able to instill that confidence in the players. Shame he needed to replace cigarrettes with drinking but everyone needs a crutch when you are under constant pressure and scrutiny.

Clough and Taylor took not one but two Midlands clubs from the 2nd tier of English football to the very top of the 1st division. He joined Nottingham Forest in 1975 in the 2nd division and by 1978 they were English champions. In 1979 and 1980 they were European champions. Incredible achievements. The sad thing was Clough fell out with Taylor not long after and they never spoke again. I wonder if the fall out had something to do with Clough's excessive drinking and alcoholism in later years.
