I’m so glad I came across this video. I wanted braids in my hair, but my arthritis won’t let me spend hours parting each section perfectly. I did a braided hairstyle recently without using a comb to part it, and it came out cute, but I was self conscious the entire time, thinking people would think I was weird for not having perfect parts or even “visible” parts in some places. This video and all the comments have relieved some of my anxiety over this. I see that I’m not alone! Lol😊

There is a difference in harassment and holding someone accountable. She stop responding to me which left me no recourse. Instead of responding to me, Mason did a video bashing me. This is just stuff people need to know if they are going to do business with HairByMason!! If as stylists, you think this is okay (ignore them, post a video to bash them and keep a deposit after you decide not to provide the service) please shout it loud. Its something new clients need to know. #Accountability

I gave you the opportunity to respond and explain. After 6 days, I submitted a claim to BBB and the consumer protection agency. I guess a video trying to make me look like a liar or someone who can't read works better for you (something new clients need to know). Your site doesn't work like you are depicting it. I suspect that you actually have updated your site since my complaint and to justify your actions. Nothing indicated that the deposit wasn't refundable. Moreover, it still doesn't make sense to keep the deposit knowing the circumstances in which you ultimately chose not to do my hair. Here is my last text that you chose not to include. All you had to do was respond, explain and refund me. Your future clients just need to know your policy of keeping a deposit even if you cancel within the hour because Mason can't or won't do their hair. Its a bad practice, but sounds like your practice. Just own it!
@HairByMason Жыл бұрын
Ma’am, I never received a response from you after I sent you the referrals. Did you check on your end to see if the messages went through? Bc I promise you I don’t have one message from you after I sent you the list of referrals, so yes that was shock being reported to the BBB. Had I received the messages I still would have explained where you were confused thinking the cancellation policy is the same as the deposit policy, they are completely separate! You made a haste decision in booking without reading the full details of the service. You can’t book with me as a space saver. I simply don’t offer the service that you wanted and gave you a list of referrals that you okayed me to do. Im not on here to make you look bad but to educate you and others about the policies. So no matter when you cancel the deposit is non refundable. That has always been the rule since I made a deposit policy years ago! It’s truly unfair that we the stylists aren’t allow to protect ourselves when the consumer moves in error. I simply used you as an example bc you decided to comment on several of my posts through all of my social media platforms. Everyone seems to know my policy but you so hopefully you understand it now. Have a great day ma’am.

Got it ma'am!! My goal is also to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. You mentioned in your video that there is a reason for the deposit policy. but you didn't say the reason. I still think its a bad policy to keep a deposit when an appointment is cancelled within the hour and the client is obviously trying to figure things out with you. We can agree to disagree, but I don't believe my situation fits into any reasons for why such a policy should exist or not warrant an exception. It's definetly not okay to ignore someone because the text went through and show delivered. If BBB and Consumer Protection feels this is not a deceptive practice, I will apologize, but I think we both agree folks need to understand it before booking.

Let me just add something here. I have been following Mason for years. I am very proud that she has a business. I haven’t watched any of her videos in quite some time because her channel hasn’t been popping up for whatever reason. Now let’s get back to the issue at hand… alot of stylist nowadays have a deposit fee. Stylist are used to clients running off without paying and also booking appointments and not showing up which is bad for Business because that stylist could’ve had another client that was willing to pay and show up for the appointment. Styles go through a lot .Now I’m not saying all stylist are good business people, but if you understand the hair industry, then you would understand why these policies are put into place to begin with. It is your responsibility as a client to make sure you read any policy with any business. For example, I do not deal with businesses that do not offer refunds and only store credits. To me that says something shady about the business and even if I’m wrong, I would rather not deal with them and take that chance of not getting my money back. A business has every right to make up any policy they want to as long as the policy is legal.

Every now and then you get those people who REFUSE to read the appointment terms before they book. Sorry you have to deal with someone who is willing to harass you over their own error.

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, I reached out via text to Hair By Mason. Mason did my hair about 4 years ago and I wanted to solicit her services again. I sent her a picture of a style I wanted so I could check to see if it was something she could do. In the meantime, I went ahead and made an appointment for September 21, 2023. The cancellation policy indicated that you needed to cancel within 24 hours in order not to be charged a fee. I had to pay $25 for a deposit. I was fine with doing this because I knew I could easily cancel if she couldn’t do it, but I wanted it scheduled just to save the space. Mason texted me back and said she couldn’t do the style. She promptly told me that according to their policies I wouldn’t get the $25 deposit back. This all happened in less than 30 minutes. If you don’t have an account with them, you can’t see their policies. I do not have an account. I just made an online appointment, so all I have visibility to is the cancellation policy that says 24 hours. Mason stopped communicating with me and obviously doesn’t plan to refund my deposit. I think this is a deceptive business practice. She knew I was texting her about the style and she knew that the appointment was almost 30 days out. I don’t understand why she just wouldn’t give me my deposit back. It’s really the principle of it and I’m just tired of businesses getting away with taking advantage of the customer without any consequences. I would like my $25 back immediately.

As an entrepreneur a cancellation fee and a deposit are separate fees. Our time is precious and ignorance of a policy doesn’t exempt folks from being subject to them.
