You don’t mention the fact that the brackets are fixed angle. You’re making it sound like there’s a choice.

Is it possible to install a cocktail rail on top of the Enhance Railing? If so, what additional parts are needed?
@TheTrexCo
@TheTrexCo 2 күн бұрын
HI there! You can certainly install a cocktail railing on the Enhance railing. You would be using the 3/4" screws that are included in the kit to fasten the board to the railing. Beyond that you shouldn't need any additional hardware. Keep in mind that you cannot use the Enhance line of decking as a cocktail rail due to the scallops on the bottom of the boards so you would need to choose a board from the Select, Transcend, or Signature lines of decking.

Very helpful, however, at 7:33 when you're showing a small gap to catch the boards as they reach the breaker board... how do you properly attach joists to the ledger so close together? Is there a special bracket?
@TheTrexCo
@TheTrexCo 3 күн бұрын
Hello Ksiverd, I hope this message finds you well today. With those joists and blocking joists so close together, it is an interesting time getting all the necessary hardware that close. We started from the inside out and installed a joist hanger on the joist and attached it to the ledger. Then the next joist we cut just slightly shorter (about an 1/8”). Then we installed a Simpson Strong Tie L-70z onto the joist and had it face away from the adjacent joist. We then installed the nails through the L-70z into the ledger as it was outside the edges of the nearest joist hanger. Then the process was repeated on the opposite side. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or if I may be of further assistance. Kindly, Jaclyn Goodrich Trex Customer Care

Every online deck building program only has one 2x10 beam with a deck at a 14 foot depth and 2x8's as joists. So why the 2 beams and attached at the ledger?
@TheTrexCo
@TheTrexCo 9 күн бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. We chose to do 2 beams for two reasons. The customer requested absolutely no bounce as they have parties with quite a few people. Additionally, the two beams also gave us the opportunity to shoot multiple shots for our how-to videos. You could follow your local guide for a 2x8 or 2x10 to span and only have one beam if you desired. ~ Trex Customer Care Team

How do you determine how many "ROWS" of beams are required? My understanding of this project and size of deck I thought only one beam would be required but the deck is being built with 2 beams.

suppose.... you wanted to make this deck example handicap accessible? Where would you plan putting access ramps into this design? I realize this was prob. not part of the scope of this deck, so if you were designing with this in mind- what could you think of that might be important?
@TheTrexCo
@TheTrexCo 19 күн бұрын
Since wheelchairs can get caught on slight dips in a surface, we recommend using a joist spacing of 12" on center when constructing the ramp. At 12" spacing the support per chair wheel would be 125 lbs. The shorter span will provide a stiffer surface Trex products have proved successful for both walking surfaces and means of egress. We do not have ramp specs to share, however you can visit the following site for information. www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Wheelchair-Ramp. Please check with your local building office for local codes and building permits. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out.-Trex customer care 1(800)-289-8739

Hey, you’re right. I was wondering the same thing. My stringers definitely will be shortened on the bottom step by the thickness of the toe kick so the treads fit properly. Apparently that step was left out of the video.

It's not necessary to predrill for the 8" screws and impossible to do it level between the joists. It's also important to ensure that the 4x4 blocking is flush with top of the joist if you plan on picture framing.

When framing for a picture frame border with facia overhang, need to subtract one of the .25" gaps, subtract 1.25" for the facia/overhang and subtract 1.5" for the rim joist when cutting the end joists.

Im hanging trex 12 inch facia with the upper picture frame overhang of 5/8th of an inch. Im hanging it off pressure treated ground contact 2x10 rim boards. I dont like the idea of the facia right up against the wood, any water that gets in just sits and doesn't flow through at all. Is it standard practice to NOT use the spacers for install with overhang? I see that is what Trex calls for but Im wondering why. I live in Montana and we do get rain and snow.

So-the picture frame trex is not grooved, but the other boards are…how do you connect those boards to each other?
@TheTrexCo
@TheTrexCo Ай бұрын
Hey there! For the boards that are running parallel to the picture frame boards we have a router bit that allows you to route a groove into the side of the picture frame board so that you can attach the boards with the hidden fasteners on the one side and then use a plug or color matched screw on the other side. That being said you do not have to use a hidden fastener to connect the boards if you do not want to. You can just instead attach the board using one color matched screw or plug on each side of the board.

I've followed this video exactly but there is a lot of curvature to the fascia board. The fascia is not flat so as to fit flush against the rim joist. I have Trex Enhance G2 Fascia (clam shell). This doesn't seem right as it is going to make coping corners very difficult.

16” on center? I heard 12?
@TheTrexCo
@TheTrexCo Ай бұрын
Hi there! With all of our 1x6 products we have done extensive testing to determine the maximum recommend spanning is 16" on center. That being said you can still do a 12" center if you would like to as the extra support will not hurt the Trex. As long as you do not exceed the 16" maximum the boards should not sag.

@TheTrexCo Ай бұрын
Hello 86309, I hope this message finds you well. Please refer to page 16 in our Decking Installation Guide for installing spacers. Here is a link: online.flippingbook.com/view/63974767/16/ Install 3/16" to 1/4" thick x minimum 1" wide exterior grade spacers (these should be cut the same length as the rim joist), and spaced 9" on center. Install fascia screws as stated below at spacer locations (ensure that spacer screw does not interfere with fascia screw). TIP: Prior to installing spacers, paint ends black so as these are not as visible (especially when using contrasting colors). Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance. That is a bit overkill for stairs with 7 stringers. That could probably hold thousands of lbs of weight for such a short run. That said, very good video. Super informative.
@caml17

The only reason for that many stringers is due to the type of deck board and reduce flex between stringers
