I know the story and how you were inspired by indus instruments. But as sitarist and a bass guitarist, I think this is by far the best musical instrument invented to date.

Circa 2000/01 I was driving home from work in Saint Louis City, when I heard the sound of a sitar coming from the parking lot of the Fox Theater. Being gaga for the sitar, I immediately pulled over. An outdoor venue had been set up for some event, and there was Mark on a small stage playing his sitar sound checking. I looked him up and learned about the bazantar and the concept album he had just released. Been a fan ever since. Glad to see he is still at it!

I love both.. but Pizzicato with fingers is so reminiscent of Hindustani classical. Reminds of the great sitar/surbahar playets that have really loud tarabs. Love the tarab magic with the bass!!

Incredibil. Nu știam că există așa ceva dar mă gândeam demult timp, cum ar putea fi contrabasul utilizat în terapia cu sunet. Bravo omule.

If humans were ever to colonize Mars, I think instruments such as the bazantar (a replica, since Mark's bazantar I believe is the only one currently in existence) should be brought with them, to create a distinctive "Martian" genre of music. Why the bazantar? Because it combines both Eastern and Western musical elements; you have four strings one would find on a bass, but you also have the sympathetic strings that you would find on instruments such as the sitar. So it represents two distinctive musical elements which, in turn, represent different cultural elements. And those would be important things to take to another planet, and establish a permanent presence there.

I was planning on watching Prehistoric Planet with my sister, and listening to this makes it a guaranteed watch. As a random side note, the bazantar would sound incredible with certain styles of flamenco.

How many resonnating strings does this thing have? It's hard to count the tuners on the far side but it looks like around 30 but... are there frets, too? How does that all work?
