Great interview Pete. I would love to see you again (for example) on ITV, Sky, GB, CNN and BBC news in the breakdown and destroying of continued falsehoods. It's truly sick what abuses still happen and have happened historically with no real redress, admonishment or change. The Roman Catholic empire is one institution that is a law unto itself and has an awful lot to answer for. I suppose people on mass (great masses) need to come out of sleepwalking and wake-up!!! I hope your book is read and your story is heard.

I have already read this book and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the roots of institutional abuse. It starts in spectacular style with Peter's meeting with the Pope, and then traces the highs and lows of his life up to and beyond that point, from the misery of suffering abuse as a boy, to adventures in Zimbabwe and the stellar achievements of founding NAPAC, working with the British government, and participating in the Pope's Commission on child abuse. However, Peter also shows the chilling response of the establishment on hearing the truth from abuse survivors, and he asks some pertinent questions as to why survivors' voices are so seldom heard today. If you are an abuse survivor, or if you live or work with survivors, I urge you to read this book.

The relationship between a therapist and their client is one of the great confidential relationships in society - like that between a doctor and a patient. We rarely see into the heart of a relationship like this - and, as publisher Ken Scott observes, society's view of therapy is often coloured by American dramas where all is soft and lovely in the therapy room. The relationship between Patricia Wennell and her therapist Hilary was very different. I have read her powerful book, "Because It Didn't Stop When It Ended", and Patricia conveys how it feels to be in this very unusual situation, where you are exploring some of the deepest, darkest aspects of your life in company with someone who is there to listen and support - but also, sometimes, to push and to challenge. Patricia is very honest about the care she feels from Hilary, but also about the frustration and pain when she hits a crisis point and the therapist is not there. This is a tough read at some points. The author had some truly horrific stuff to work through, but her own strength of character shines out - not least in the poems that she has included to encapsulate her emotions at various points. In particular, Patricia shows the deep power of being "held in mind" by Hilary, and how this helps to dispel the sense of psychic obliteration caused by her abuse. Patricia wrote this book to help other survivors of abuse; she also hopes it will be of use to therapists. As Ken Scott says, "This is a book that every therapist in the world should order." I would recommend this book to anyone who has suffered abuse, or who wishes to know how the therapeutic process actually works. It sheds a unique light on what it is to be human.

I loved this book. It shows you that it doesn't matter what you've been through... What you've done, how much your spirit has been beaten down.. you always have that little flame of strength in your heart to fight back and claw back the life that belongs to you. I've been in a very similar situation and I've got kids.. I'm 40 now. And I just always think to myself.. oh my god. Thank you god I had the strength to keep fighting.. well that's what they say isn't it.. "if your going through hell.. keep going" as you will come out the other side. Well done Karan 🙌♥️
