No. They bought a bunch of 450s from Sherco and put tracks and skis on them. Then they added arctic cat stickers to it.

2018 Suzuki V Strom 1000?!? What happened to the 2017 Suzuki V-Strom?
@sweetcostarica

*This is the problem.* If the 2017 V-Strom gets the same revisions/upgrades as the 2018 why go through all the trouble confusing customers by using "serial number classifications". This worries them into thinking they have to wait until 2018 to get the upgrades when they hear, "2018 V-Strom". How about classifying the motorcycle by *the calendar year it gets revisited/upgraded.* This is logical and how everyone (almost everyone) does it. Skipping a model year by calling a 2017 vehicle a 2018 model year just because of a serial number is one of the weirdest things I have heard lately. EDIT: Sorry for the rant but this is the kind of thing that makes thinking people go nuts.

*I am buying a V-Strom 1000* that is why I was wondering if I should get a bike sooner or later. When I see. "new revisions/upgrades for the 2018 V-Strom", I think I have to wait to get them. Yes, "This can add to confusion, as you point out." I makes me not want to buy from Suzuki for if they do senseless/confusing things like this, *what are they like after I buy from them?* A better way is to just say *we are revising/upgrading the 2017 model year* period and leave the serial number classifications out of the selling/marketing arena. If this is a standard practice in the vehicle industry you can tell I don't by vehicles that often and that practice *IS* wrong or a better word: *VERY misleading.* The selling/marketing vehicles in the USA has a bad reputation already for "misleading practices". Why do things that continue that rep.? Odd.

Thank you for your penitence. I'll chalk this up to one of those things in life that *sales folk do to sell their produce/product.* The "serial number classifications" are made up by the manufacturer and they probably (99.9%) make them up not only to classify but to sale the item. Calling a 2017 motorcycle a 2018 is foolish. It may get them an edge on the marketing/salesroom floor though & that (IMO) is why they use this confusing system. It is on purpose. Although a small matter, I think it is another shameful thing the industry does to sell more vehicles and that burns people up in the USA, Canada, & the World. I will enjoy the 2017 or 2018 V-Strom 1000 as I have enjoyed motorcycling for also 40 years now. Thanks, stay frosty.

I understand the value entry-level design..but to me basic protection shouldn't be sacrificed..CV boot gaurds..wheel hub covers..which also is absent..couldn't cost that much to factory install..I was considering this model but now I'm having doubts.

If it would have had the gaurds I wouldn't have second guessed it..but protection for the basic stuff is a must..thanks for the info and response.
