I know this is two years old but it’s painfully relatable right now. My manuscript just vanished from my computer (seriously it’s just gone and I have no idea why) and on top of all the other blows I’ve gotten with my other book + life in general, I’m in a similar spot. Clearly the universe doesn’t want me to write but I literally have nothing else to do. Writing is the only thing I’ve ever been kind of good at or even like doing but writing doesn’t like me. You probably won’t see this but in case you do, sorry for dumping this comment here. Maybe I’ll get lucky and that’ll delete itself too

Yes, it's me again. I already wrote you a comment today, but I was curious to see what kind of person you are. OK, yes, there are many people who are in your situation. And there are many people who are in a much worse situation than you. And that's no consolation for you, I know, but I think it's important to try to remember that. I have Avoidant Personality Disorder, which means that, in addition to being in the same, lonely situation as you, I don't like myself or the way I look. I avoid meeting people whenever I can because I fear that they are going to judge me as harshly as I do myself, and the disorder makes it next to impossible to deal with such criticism and rejection. I have no problem being criticized or challenged on an intellectual level, but when it comes to my appearance and worth as sexual human being, my confidence has fallen through the bottom of the barrel, and it just hurts too much to have to listen to or see other people remind me of the fact that I'm not good enough. So for the last 20 years, I've lived alone, holed up in my apartment. And all this time, I've longed and ached for someone to be close to, just like you. But because of this disorder, I haven't done anything about it. I've never been to parties or dated anyone. I've just never felt that someone would be interested, so I haven't bothered even trying. And that HURTS. Anyway, like I pointed out in my other comment, you are attractive and charming. You do have a chance. I think the problem may have more to do with your idea of the "perfect" life. Nothing is perfect. You'll never be happy if you base your hopes and dreams on impossible ideals. And those who do (all those couples you see) are more often than not very unhappy behind closed doors. I mean, why otherwise would there be so much infidelity and cheating going on? Sure, the grass is always greener on the other side, but a person who has no problem finding a new boyfriend or girlfriend is not going to stick around for long at the first sight of trouble, are they? So all these perfect relationships are built on very shaky foundations, if you ask me. They may look perfect on the outside, but they're based on empty ideals, and not on realistic love. It's much harder to find a person to love who'll remain faithful to you because they love you and want to be with you, than it is to find someone who agrees to be in a relationship with you because they're afraid of being alone and being judged. And in my opinion, only true love matters. Everything else is a waste of time, and will do nothing but add fuel to your depression. So wipe your sad tears and chin up. You need to work out realistic goals and forget about attaining perfection. Perfection doesn't exist, and the very idea of it is boring. Imagine having no flaws! BLERGH! And don't watch Buzzfeed! They make money by making people feel inferior and shit about themselves.
