I got to come to the defense of the show here, and we can do it with to words: Jaime Lannister. This is the guy that in the first episode of GoT literally fucks his sister (having kids with said sister) and tries to kill a kid, has killed his king and we all know about his duel with Ned, the objective protagonist of that season and the consequences of that fight. I am not saying this things are worse than what Aegon does, especially the r*pe, but I reckon it's pretty balanced out. So end of season 1 of GoT and we got Jaime Lannister, arguably the most evil and irredemable character right up there with Joffrey. And what do we get in the next seasons? Arguably the most complex and well explored character in the series (shame D&D fumbled him later on). As such, I think most of this critic does not hold up, and judging by what we saw in the first episode of HotD season 2 (and though Aegon is going to get a lot more vicious now) it is my judgement that most of the points made in this video won't hold up to the end of the season. Anyways this are just my thoughts, and we will have to wait for these season to unfold.

I was team green in the books. Obviously they’re both evil. But you just have to look at the picture of Aegon II in the book to see he isn’t anything like the Aegon II we get in the show. I know it’s history told by different people but that’s such a departure from the book

So im gonna comment 45 seconds into the video 1. this is based off the book, in a maesters perspective. This means that characters can be somewhat different from the book as the book is implied to be heavily biased. 2. Even if GRRM intended a slightly different aegon, I like what we have seen in S1e9 and S2e1, its a young king trying to be good (the flock of sheep he tried to give back to the herder), and kinda learning how to rule.

not just maester munkin, but also mushroom and septon eustace. that's 3 biases. also munkin wrote the true telling while aegon 3 was king, so you can't be sure of what his bias is.

Kinda dumb to compare game of thrones to HOTD when it comes to living up to source material. GOT is based off 5 books and thousands of pages, HOTD is based of a part of one book. So obviously it’s impossible for GOT to live up to it like HOTD since theirs way more content that would need to be adapted.

Man, this is an amazing video. I pinned it to my "watch later" when I saw the thumbnail and title. Coming back now and watching it, you completely nail it. I agree almost across the board with your points here. It's also funny because when it comes to the "aging up" of characters in the show, I like it in most cases, but prefer the Jon and Robb of the books as young boys, and it's great you sort of balance that out. Fine work, liked and sub'd!

Tyrion's speech is better in the show, sure. But the book has Jaime's Taisha confession to Tyrion which is brilliant -- the show doesn't have that at all
@italianman263 ай бұрын
Everything I covered in Tyrions trial was before the Tysha confession by Jaime. It’s technically apart of the plot, but I did a little bit of cheating and I should’ve mentioned that because removing that scene was a terrible idea💀. Thank you for pointing this out.

(I haven’t read the books so feel free to correct me if am wrong) hardhome gave us a good battle and good foreshadowing for what’s to come: cool fighting and cgi battles to keep our minds occupied instead of good story telling. If Jon saw the white walker army, then gets killed and brought back to life, then runs away, it seems almost cowardly and just stupid. Yea he got betrayed but he hanged those guys, besides, the wall is huge so and the threat is even bigger, so he should feel more obligated to stay, no? If he never saw the hardhome incident and the white walker army, and the wildings are allies, AND he gave his life to the watch, then surely he’s more likely to leave bc now he thinks “not breaking any vows, I gave my life, now my family needs me more, and now surely this wall and the nights watch is pointless bc wildlings are free to come and go anyways.” In the show Ed says “u can’t leave us now, u saw what’s out there” and that makes so much sense. That’s why hardhome is a terrible change imo bc the duty driven Jon from the show could never leave when they needed him most AT THE WALL.

On the age thing.. I also prefer them being aged up and just assume most the characters in the books are the age of the show, but the fact of the matter is that in a medieval setting, most people die by 20 and are considered adults literally as soon as they touch puberty. I’m not saying it’s right, just historically accurate.
@herroberbesserwisser73313 ай бұрын
Not accurate technically. Most people died at childbirth, if you survived till 20 you had a high chance to reach 60 years of age.
