Just for beginners as I am. Suunto is often cited as a reference for compasses. Probably true, but I would like to share my experience. Surprisingly the North and South were not aligned to 0o and 180o on my newly bought compass. Very bad for a MC-2 that cost 70 €. I have tried to contact the help centrer … no one ever answered. So think twice before buying, I never tried Silva maybe better.
@summitsparrow22 күн бұрын
That is pretty surprising to hear. Did you buy it from Amazon? They have a pretty good return policy.
@hulaupbarbatruc281822 күн бұрын
@@summitsparrow hi, no I bought it directly from them. I still do not know about their return (I am waiting to see if it works) but for the support, it is simple: nothing despite many attempts from my side to reach them.

Thank you so much, from the an intermediate navigator in the North West of England. Very interesting. I have only ever used a baseplate compass and our land maps only use the Ordanance Survey Grid References, unique to Britain and Ireland, so i learnt loads from this 👍

Why aren't you wearing gloves? I thought they were necessary for gripping.

Some people prefer gloves on the cables. I actually think having more dexterity is safer. I have a whole other video where I go over some of the Half Dome safety aspects. Check that out for further info. Happy trails!

Great video! I was just researching this peak some days ago (and some others ), and you just upload this video, I have been very lucky to discover it, thanks! Did you follow the ridge from the parking spot up to the summit? Was it hard in terms of bushes? I see the road seems good for a passanger car right? Is it possible to follow your track in some of the platforms? Thanks for sharing and congrats for the video.
@summitsparrow4 ай бұрын
Glad I can help! It was pretty straight-forward to get up there from the road. Many cross-country options are possible. I basically kept in the shadows as much as possible and then followed the ridgecrest north. The last 700 feet or so was a little more tricky class 3 scrambling. The summit block was not too bad, although a little vertigo-inducing. Go early and avoid the heat. Thanks for watching and happy trails to you!

@@summitsparrow ! We made it last week! We travel from Spain to the US to do this and some other peaks in the Cascades. Your video and diagram were really usefull. You were totally right, the Hot was really intense up there, we almost gave up... we got the secondary summit and then we realize that to get the summit block it was required to descend some feet again, and it took some time to find the better passages, but finally we made it after almost 4h of ascending. Amazing views, atmosphere, solitude. I hope you can keep finding such a magnificent mountains like this and you can enjoy them, Kind regards!

Want to say I'm glad to see another navigation video from you. Both your first map & compass video and this one have been extremely helpful in me trying to learn how to navigate with map & compass. Thank you very much! Also, the angle at 28:15 is 73 degrees. All the angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees, so 180-90-17=73.

If you're going to send a missile ballistic or not, you need more than compass azmuth. TargetAzmuth, Target distance, the height difference between the firing point and The Target. With the help of aming circles and via the Orientation Azhmut, you find out the angle difference between OA and TA. the angle should be in MILS, not degrees. In your case, you have the best chance of hitting the island if you put the compass away and aim for the target. The target is visible. There are no prisoners left on Alcatraz anymore, and if there were, you must give them a chance to defend themselves against your view of humanity.
