is it possible to have the rs7000 output a click in order to sample live playing?
@zamisers7k
@zamisers7k Жыл бұрын
I am not sure what exactly or why you are asking... Is it for analog modular live playing? Not sure need a click (for tempo right?) otherwise? Otherwise just use normal midi to get your stuff tempoed/BPMed out properly??? The RS doesn't do what I think you are asking so much, but perhaps hook up something like an Arturia Microbrute or maybe some of the ASM HydraSynths or some other more modern gear/synths that includes midi and modular input/outputs for generating a click beat to hook up your modular gear to with the RS and keep all that stuff synced up in time??? The RS is not the best for recording samples from otherwise, there is an issue where there is some timing lag and rubberbanding to catch up on from the beginning of phrase loops (not as bad as other gear from the era in my limited humble opinion but is and can be noticeable if you are in to sample heavy gear/synths/stuff), so converting phrases to song mode where you have multiple loops and you gather your sample from one of the middle loops will then likely be more tight to get proper sample timing from the RS... this can be a bit more complicated than expected on the RS since phrases per track can also be able to have independent time signatures, but the default 4x4 not so much an issue if you stick to that, anyhow hope this info helps some :) :) :) :)

@zamisers7k

I have, it is really cool with the RS, think adjusting cutoff on several track/channels at the same time, or velocity, it also remembers the velocity level when muting so it does remote muting.
@johannes.nieuwenhuizen
@johannes.nieuwenhuizen 2 жыл бұрын
@@zamisers7k Yes that’s why I’d get it too. Was primarily looking at it for the QY70, because that one lacks any kind of hands on control but it would be even cooler with the RS. Can the RS get controlled like that (multiple cutoff etc) from a simple midi controller with faders too, or does it only work with SysEx?

This is amazing. I was looking for something like this. However, is there a way to do this for recorded samples? Binding a sample voice to a phrase? Unfortunately the reply of Pedro Anastazi is way to technical for me. Never mind, just found out the answer. This does work! Select the phrase, select the (local) sample. Start recording and then set to MSB *** LSB ***.

Saving samples as a voice or common voice does some strangeness that I am not use to with RS's normal built in voices, glad you figured it out whatever it did :)

thx for the vid, but I'll add a couple things here to help... Apologies in advance for the lengthy post... theres lots to explain... Ive had my RS7k and my RM1x when they were both first released... The RM/RS sequencers are phrase dominant sequencers, not track. The OLD MC units used to be track dominant until the MC707 & Fantom came along with its clip (their word for phrase) based sequencing using an Abelton performance matrix. Phrase is a bookmark/placecard fand can be used for 3 different things... 1) to allow non destructive sound auditioning 2) to be used as pre-record preparation 3) resetting the phrase (NOT TRACK) to its original tone state at time of creation, excluding recorded CC. I see no other reason for it and to be honest, it really is a pointless way to do things unless your brain is fried.... "phrase' has never been a permanent setting in an actual PHRASE.. as 'phrase' is just a placecard till you fill the track with an actual numbered phrase... OR are using 'phrase' to recall the last tone selected In any case, this phrase 'feature' has been a part of the RM1x and RS7k since inception...some find it problematic, others find it helpful but most of us arent fussed coz we use program changes to lock a sound to a phrase along with respective track control settings and all CC recordings.. . I wouldnt use this method if my intent was to change tones as i jump section to section (or even change tone halfway through a section) Phrases dominate tracks as they control what the track does, what it holds, what it sends to effects, how those effects are configured, and how the phrase and track is managed whilst a recorded phrase is sittin on that track. However THIS level of control can ONLY happen if you set those commands within a phrase...either PC's or CCs or NRPNs .. either manually or through recording or from external control. Dont think of the tracks as a sound or control source... coz theyre not... If you leave a phrase/clip untouched and theres just simple note data, then your track configuration /settings are in command, inc tone, lfo, fx eq etc. BUT throw afew CC/s or PC/s or NRPNs into that phrase on toss it on any given track, and those track settings take the back seat and immediately follow the commands within the phrase, overriding pre-existing track settings... Make sense? So wtf does that have to do with anything 'phrase' related? Well, like I said, a basic phrase without ProgChange (or other) commands has the track retain tone and other settings. This limits you to one tone per track across all sections. For what youre wanting to do, youre much better off and safer using program changes, and NOT using the placecard of the 'phrase" setting Remember, "Phrase" is a flag or placecard of sorts, used when a sound is allocated (but not PC'd) to a phrase or track. So going back to the heirarchy I mentioned earlier, the track dominates UNTIL its told otherwise by the phrase... and if there is no command, then that original command (track settings) remains as is.... Keypoint here, is that THAT phrase will command the track to go to ABCXYZ of the Tone generator, until told otherwise. ... its NOT the other way around... And so if there is no command in the phrase, or there are no 'phrase' tweaks (CC's or whatever) then the last chosen setting for that track or phrase will be used UNLESS youre TG shows "phrase" (on that track).. Make sense? BUT... TBH its better you DONT use 'phrase' for permanent work or set it onto a track UNLESS you intend on keepin the ONE tone on any same one track throughout your entire style (project) Use "phrase" when you jump through sounds to audition and tweak, and revert back to the phrase or tracks unprogrammed sound if you have to, by just dialling back to the begingin of the TG settings.... BUT use PROGRAM CHANGES and Control Change's to make those tweaks permanent in the phrase. Its easy to do and all the PC and tone numbers are right there for you.. just keep a notepad handy... Moving on... "phrase" was never designed as a permanent solution for locking a sound to a phrase. Again, if you wna change sounds at any time in any section on any track, then thats what Program Changes are for... You cant do that with 'phrase' set "phrase" flagged tones on a track with no recorded phrase set to that slot (shown when you hit pattern button twice to bring up the phrase to track matrix), and phrases themselves (actual numbered recordings) are independent of track ONLY if you allocate controls within those phrases. If youve just got note data, then going back to the heirarchy tree I mentioned earlier, the track settings dominate until told otherwise by the phrase... Jeebus I hope that made sense.. BTW you can use this same method pf editign the phrase to insert PC, NRPN and CC messages within your phrase recording to change effects, track settings, filter types, effect types, LFO types, portamento on/off, speeds etc per phrase within any given track. Theres more but imma stfu coz this is long enough...

is there a way to have different measures playing in a style? for instance in style one, you have a 4 measure drum loop looping, on track 2 a 4 measure bassline looping,, and on track 3 you want to have a lead playing for 8 measures, or 9 or whatever. is this possible?
@zamisers7k
@zamisers7k 3 жыл бұрын
yes it is possible, they can also have different time signatures. You wouldn't think that would make sense having dif time signatures playing together but you can, not that I've done much of anything other than 4/4 much myself. The style/pattern does not have a true length, it has a bpm/tempo, but it is the phrases assigned to the tracks that each can have their own measure lengths, in fact you switch sections and have a different phrase on the same track with a different length of measures. It is a hard concept to grasp compared to many other sequencers, but once understood it like a light comes on in your head and you realize how powerful the RS can be in this department.

Hello buddy I've been watching a lot of your videos as you defiantly spent a lot of time on this machine I just got my one today after regrettably selling my rm1x for the same price I paid 10 years ago £140 "gulp" . Any way I have a quick question as I'm just unboxing it and setting up Do u use stereo or mono plugs and 1 or 2 cos I'm baffled had same problem with my rm1x alway thought one channel was blown cos it only came out of one speaker and i don't wanna even risk it with my rs7k

If you are using one plug then you want to use the head phones out as stereo if it is a stereo plug and cable. The L & R outs are mono, don't use a stereo plug on them, not sure what will happen if do, but prob best to make sure you use mono cables on the L & R outs. I use both ways sometimes, but mostly L & R mono outs to seperate channels on mixer with panned to opposite sides, and also the AIEB2 outs as well sometimes for EQing kicks separately from the main mix. Thanks for watching new RS buddy!

@@zamisers7k I forgot to mention the wire I have is a stereo rca to red and white phonos to my dy mixer
@zamisers7k
@zamisers7k 4 жыл бұрын
@@nickynice779 for that I would suggest, if you have not already, get a 1/4 male stereo to L&R RCA female converter and use that on the phones jack on the RS. Otherwise you'll have to get 2 female RCA to 2 female 1/4 mono converters and then two mono cables for L&R outs on the RS which is more of a hassle. Either way should work. I have never heard of having wrong cables on the RS outputs causing damage, they just don't work like expected I imagine. I also like to avoid RCA cables, they seem to go bad sooner and more prone to interference. If that is what your mixer takes then I am assuming it is a DJ mixer, maybe get a console mixer that takes 1/4" jacks instead. There are some small and cheap ones, they look more "professional" I often use a little Yamaha AW10, one of my fav little mixers :) :) :)
