Instead of doing 3 to 5 overhand knots.. i just do a standard fishermans knot (clinch) with 5 wraps. Its actually faster and stronger, and wont come undone. But in all honesty.. i never tie braid straight to floro/mono anyway. I use a swivel, and tie trilene knots on both side.. which gives top breaking strength, and solves any line twist. I dont like reeling any knot through the gides. And because all tbe salt/fresh water is muddy in my area of texas.. even straight braid is ok 90% of the time. The only clear water around here is in swimming pools

I don’t understand passing over the knot to make your half hitch. Makes the knot thicker. Why not just cut a small piece of braid and tie overhand knots on the leader end of the Alberto knot.

@@thequietfisho I don't mind the half hitches at the end to taper the knot. I just don't prefer to make a half hitch that spans the length of the knot. If it works for you though, that's cool. I like to do half hitches just on the end to taper it.

If it doesn't get caught, or at minimum a bump on the way out, it's gonna get it on the way in. An 18" leader to a swivel has never done me wrong
@Peter-zg3em7 ай бұрын
i really don't think you're making an improvement beyond adding an extra wrap at the end for the traditional "improved alberto." you've greatly increased the profile of the knot, added a loose piece of braid. i use the alberto from time to time. strong knot. best strength over FG is how quickly you can tie the alberto. if you need a lower profile knot you can go to the fg. it's as low profile as they come and it's stronger. here, you're adding time, adding volume to the knot, and i can't really say i trust its ability to protect my knot or reduce the damage done to it or the reduction of casting distance through the guides. i would be curious to see if you figured out a way to get the tag end of the braid onto the other side of the knot without going outside of the knot. like a rizutto or a snell.
@thequietfisho7 ай бұрын
All I know is this improved knot travels through the guides smoothly now, no more hang ups on microguides from the leader tag, that's the point of this knot. Casting distance has been improved as a result and I haven't noticed any issues with strength.
@JoeScear7 ай бұрын
in theory I totally get what you're shooting for here, but in reality there was a bit of a struggle to finish off the fancy part of the extra half hitches while being in a controlled environment (would be appreciably harder while on a kayak or boat or just on the bank in the wind). might as well tie an fg knot if you're going to go to that level of modifying an alberto knot.
@thequietfisho7 ай бұрын
I tie it in the wind all the time, it's only 3-4 half hitches and easy to keep tension on the line. Like anything else a bit of practise makes it easier.
