I found that viewfinder, 33Mp, mode dial, more custom buttons, super 35 mode in 4K are much more important to me than worse rolling shutter. Shaking camera from side to side is not my style of shooting anyway :)

The downside of the 2009 (I own one BTW) are the USB2 ports, which preclude useful external storage, because, face it, 480 Mbps doesn’t cut it anymore. The FireWire 800 port is faster, but FW800 drives and enclosures seem to have disappeared from the face of the Earth. However, you can add a second internal drive with an OWC Data Doubler and the mini could have as much as a couple TB of internal storage (at SATA 3Gbps speeds). The upgrade to newer macOS using OCLP really makes sense for this unit because El Capitan is seriously limited in software and doesn’t know how to handle the latest SSL web certificates which are used by almost all web sites these days. The CPU in this box is still pretty chipper if limited in the core count, but with with 8 GB RAM and decent internal storage it's still a good performer -- in face, I fired up my old copy of Doom 3 and it loads and plays like it's... 2009! Cheers!

Did you monitor the memory pressure at all while doing this? I’m on an Intel Mac and looking to upgrade. I’m concerned about the RAM usage. I wouldn’t need it to edit anything above 4k. I’ve been wondering if I should just wait for the new Mac Studio.

What an absolute bargain. I bought a 1Ds MK 2 during covid for £165 and the pictures I get are amazing compared to my other camera's I paid a lot more for. Nearly 200k pics taken on it and I will continue to use it till it fails, worth every penny.

Been wanting to upgrade from my 2015 quad i7 Macbook Pro for video editing which I'm about to start doing lots and keep the i7 dedicated to my music production. I can't afford to drop a couple grand as I've just DONE that for my Raid array. I think this m4 base Mini is gonna do the trick......big time. I've watched a LOT of videos on this thing and yours told me more about this thing, given what MY 2K demands are gonna be on it, than any other video out there. Seems a really amazing machine for the money. Maybe even hands down the best value in ANY tech right now if not EVER. Put my 60Tb Thunderbolt array and my 2Tb external NVME SSD and the 34" 1440p IPS ultrawide curved I ordered and BAM.....I think I'm off and runnin'.

Hard to see any rolling shutter effect with almost static subjects... but small stepped or interrupted lines are somewhat visible on lines, at the edge of large bright surfaces and when cars move. The best test is a closeup on the helix of a propeler airplane, the one of a ULM or a car wheel in rotation

Would you consider this a worthwhile upgrade over the Sony 55-210? I just find that lens to be really soft after about 150mm, and I’m curious how this may compare. Thanks!
