You might have heard this by now but the Xenomorph has no eyes or ears, I'm pretty sure. Instead, they apparently, have other heightened senses like acute awareness of sound waves caused by your movements and vocals. It also doesn't have a nose so when it's sniffing the locker and you have to hold your breath it's because it will feel your breath. Even if it seems to have seen you from far away, it has felt your movement through vibrations. So if you were sitting perfectly still and not making a sound, it's reasonable to assume that it might not know you're there. But man, you were lucky, hahaha. People think that the Xenomorph is female because they have a queen who lays eggs but they are considered neither male or female nor asexual nor hermaphrodite. I know that Sigourney Weaver calls the queen a bitch in Aliens but I guess they have rewritten the lore since then but there seems to be no Earthly way to describe their gender or sexuality other than hive-like or binary, idk? The Xenomorph who's after us in the game is, from what I can gather, a worker drone.
@Numaticin
@Numaticin 2 ай бұрын
They make it pretty clear in the second film they act like ants yes. I would say that the species probably has one biological sex, the Queen only being selected on individual genetic grounds. Since their reproductive cycle is inherently parasitic, they don't need a 'female' to gestate their young, they can all have the capacity to 'impregnate' their victims by supplying the genetic material to be developed in host through the face-huggers. I think that would technically make them hermaphroditic, but I'm not sure. Though, obviously in a thematic sense, the idea from the original film is that the Alien is the Male, in the broader sense, whilst all of it's victims on the Nostromo, that dude on the crashed derelict, and everyone else in its way is the Female.

10:23 Not too sure how familiar you are with the Dishonored games but this little note is a nod to them. The note by Antoinette Sokol. In the Dishonored games, we had one, Anton Sokolov. There are a few nods to Dishonored in this game and I'll see if I remember them when they come up but I'm just watching this first video for now since I'm still watching Alien: Isolation. 12:43 Picking up objects and throwing them? The written word and more than enough written information....all hallmarks of Bethesda and especially Arkane. Dishonored 2 had omg, so much to read. @@Numaticin It's short and sweet. Very different though. I'd much rather have Prey 2. Or Dishonored 3. As for the coffee switch, you wouldn't have seen it in editing either since you did not look up. You'd have to go and watch someone else's video to see it. It was pretty cool, and it was our first idea about what would happen. I was pleasantly surprised that we were going to space. Yeah, what the hell was Redfall? Why not Prey 2? I also never wanted to get this game which is so unusual for me for a Bethesda game, but while I don't mind magic and monsters, I'm so, so, so not into vampires. Arkane seems to want to shoot itself in the foot, if you ask me.

I didn't like the female voice actor in this game. The male voice actor is sooo good.
@SnowWalker1
@SnowWalker1 2 ай бұрын
Funny that you leave things behind that the game wants you to pick up. My theory is to pick every single thing that a game lets me pick up and store until there's no space left to carry anything more. In which case I'll either try to make my inventory space bigger or start going down the old micro-management path, which everyone knows is a big part of a Bethesda game.
@Numaticin
@Numaticin 2 ай бұрын
@@SnowWalker1 I have an aversion to filling my inventory, I need about 20% free space or I start stressing out about picking up even the smallest thing. My theory is to limit collection to what's obvious and then try to figure out what I'm missing when I start dying a lot. Admittedly, there are some flaws in that method. I think the female VA is fine, at least she didn't bother me, maybe she's slightly monotone. I haven't heard the male VA though. It's still odd to me that they went through all that effort to change dialogue and get multiple actors in when you're still playing the character of Morgan. Having played it I don't see that picking my gender made any real difference, but I guess there's nothing wrong with trying to be inclusive.
@SnowWalker1
@SnowWalker1 2 ай бұрын
@@Numaticin It was a very re-playable game for me but I always played as male Morgan, hahaha. I didn't gel with her. There's no difference in the gender in the game but I think it was made during a time when devs might have thought it best to give both, idk? Your aversion to inventory is how I feel about my pc. I can not stand to have more than half my harddrive used, lol. I'll start uninstalling games if it does. It drives me bonkers. But in games, I like to have every advantage. I get micro management burnout in the Fallouts because I want everything. In Starfield I was obsessed with picking up every gun and selling them. I did a lot of juggling to make that happen. I had a lot of credits though, lol. I bought a few ships.

Unfortunately, all I can hear, with my headphones on I might add, is your voice, and barely any of the game. KZbinrs have a misconception that their voice should be louder than the game volume but it's not the case...both volumes should be equal in volume to really get, totally immersed. If you notice other gamers don't turn the game volume down or the background music. Maybe I just can't hear the music though? But if I turn it up to hear the game better your voice becomes booming.
@Numaticin

I tune the audio mixing in a way that sounds best to me. The game's audio can be quite subdued so perhaps the background is a little lower in the quite sections. I may be partial, but the mixing seems perfectly acceptable to my ear.

I’m calling the player character “Nell” until further notice. Edit: I guess Mel is canon to this story if a mention of a “guardian and intrusion system” is anything to go by. Virgil mentioned something about “two particularly cruel scientists” which refers to a portal 1 mod I believe.

Could not decide what annoyed me more, the jump cube platforming or the bots. Came here to backseat and neatly avoided both... Going to blindly guess that the original entropy center didn't have a chain of structurally identical offices in straight line leading into each other. So has the core been duplicating the office somehow? Edit: NVM it was a dream.

I vote for the bots, I could deal with the platforming, but the bot sections were seriously ill-advised concepts that really should have been left on the cutting room floor. Life's kinda kicked me in the face which is why I haven't made anything more, and I cannot promise I will make more guides soon, however, I was planning to do a overview of the villagers and species, so if I do continue this, I'll try to touch on as much of their mechanics in future. In answer to your question however, no, I do not believe the amount of species specific shelters you have built attracts more of that species, population arrives more or less randomly, so just build around what population you have.

If you're just trying to get your first win, a lot of these tips are a little more in depth than necessary. The trees for example, I'm well over 100 hours and I couldn't tell you what trees do what. Luckily before you embark, you can click on the summary tab and it'll tell you what you can get from the trees and what you can harvest. Unless you're going extremely min max, you're not going to worry about what specific trees you're cutting. Wood is a constant need all game with planks used in nearly every building construction (as well as solves some glades) as well as needing wood for fuel as it's the most easily and readily accessible. You generally want to get paths down, woodcutter camps (2-3 depending on how many settlers you start with), shelters (basic is fine initially) and then the world is your oyster. Most folks tend to wait to pick building blueprints until either their first cornerstone choice at the start of year 2 (looking for ways to synergize cornerstones with buildings) and/or until they open their first forbidden glade so they know what resources they have to work with. Generally you want to prioritize shelter, upgrading your hearth and food ASAP as that's going to be the foundation for getting your resolve high enough starting out that you won't have Harpies or Lizards trying to leave in the first storm. After that it's about getting your economy and production online and leaning into your win con. One last tip, it's best to keep your impatience as high as possible without losing as that's going to give you a large hostility reduction. Also, you don't have to accept newcomers. It's generally wise not to once you reach a certain point as they'll also increase hostility.

Don't shy away from hitting space to pause the ingame. It gives you time to think, to (re)prioritize production, move buildings, etc. Try to focus on the deliveries/quests you picked and use downtime (when you have to wait until certain things get done) to focus on something else (improve production chains, improving people's resolve, etc.).
