Say Heah, After researching and using a few other knivrs, practicing with sets, I finally came down to my Fav. set. I picked the Rodent 5 over my Ratmandu, even though my Ratmandu is a little better chopper for the size, The Rodent 5 I had thinned down, It came out just a little leaner, But it's still a strong knife and I slice and carve better with it. I also use my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet which I can wear both on person, I usually scout new area's out with just a Haversack with some other C's and my Bacho Laplander even though my Wicked Tough Saw is my Fav. The Bacho is more compact and fits better in my Haversack, As far as my Summer Long Knife, I selected my Rodent Rucki, I tested and practiced with other tools, But this set is now my all time Fav. go to set, Most of the time I solo, So even if I run out of daylight, I can do a overnighter with more confidence with these tools. I like going lite, and even though it seems like alot of tools, The set in this system isn't that heavy and I can handle carrying the whole set without a problem. The Rodent 5 slices and carves great and is a pretty strong knife, But having it leaner really helps over my Ratmandu which I luv. The Double Bit Hatchet I use instead of a Large knife and I have one side sharp enough to carve with it too and the other bit to split with a very lite versatile tool. Usually I luv my Wicked Tough Saw and I use it alot, But when I just use a Haversack instead of a Backpack, I like the lighter compact Bacho. And the Rucki is just a great clearing tool when I have to Bushwack myself through the summer brambles and with the choil makes it very versatile and it's defenetly a great chopper too, Infact this set can be used through 3 seasons starting with Spring thru Fall easily. In colder weather when processing alot of firewood to stay warm, I like using an Axe, It depends on how cold it is, I can use my G. B. Small Forest Axe, or one of my Fav's a 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the heavy duty sheath and sling for easy carry. But on extended trips, I like my Ochsenkopf Axe, It's a 28" heft and a 2.2. Lbs. head, I also had a heavy head House Axe that we take on less cold days. Yeah, Scouting especially solo, I feel better knowing my tools will stand up to anything that might and could happen in the bush, I take one of my Fav. things to do serious. But it all starts with a good knife, Mors Kochansky in his book writes a knife should be a strong knife that works wood well and the Rodent 5 is just that. With the choil I can use it as a smaller knife and that makes it versatile. The Rucki also with its choil can work as a knife and sometimes I even baton with it, But it's a great chopper and clearing tool, The hatchet is my version instead of taking a large blade as in a 2Knife carry, But I feel it's more versatile and besides I already have the Rucki, Sometimes in more familiar area's and I know I don't have to clear my way through, I don't take my Rucki, Yeah, No question in my mind my Fav. Trio is my Rodent 5, 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and one of either or Folding Saw's, Yeah, You guys have a awesome tool, That Rucki, Rocks !!!

Say Heah Andeas, Yeah, I used the Rucki as my Long Knife in the summer to get through the Brambles and Thickets, and I still carried my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and my Wicked Tough Saw also my Belt Knife which varied but If I had to just pick one, it would be my Rodent 5 although I really love my Modde Rodent 6 which I had the top gaurd taken off and the blade thinned down, My Modde Rodent 6 I will use in colder weather along with my heavier gear for colder weather, Yeah, than my Camp/Belt Carry will be my Modde Rodent 6, either my Iltis Oxhead hanged on a 19" White Hickory Handle or my Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe or my Hultafors Bruks 17" Agdor range Hatchet and either my Silky Bigboy 200 or the Bob's Buck Saw, Yeah I believe using the right tool for the right job. But unless you experience the versital if the Rodent Rucki, I could understand your inquiry. Yeah, I can Baton, Chop and with the Choil I can finish the job without grabbing a smaller knife to finish the job when we're building a camp. Yeah, It's an awesome tool, Yeah, it's pricy but well worth it, , ,

Oh by the way, It's not even close to the VG-10, Yeah Swamp Rat make tgeir SR101 with a high RC, but that's because of their Busse Technology Temporing, the VG-10 would not work as well as a chopper because it would be too brittle, the SR101 on the other hand is a 52100 Ballbearing Steel that is Deferentially tempered meaning tge edge is also harder than the spine, All that Technology they do at Busse makes the price justifiable, for the price, I don't think how good of a deal your friend got, for the money, Swamp Rat SR101 is the best for the bucks, , ,

Say Heah Guys, Yeah, I have the Swamp Rat Rodent Rucki, I use mine in the bush, I used it like my Summer Long Knife, and I batoned with it too, the choil also allows me to finish a job without getting a smaller knife, It's one awesome chopper too, I really like mine and no regrets, , ,

why you dont use a tomahawk or an axe?

+Andreas Höfler I think the video is meant to "Swamp Rat Rucki Review" as indicated by the title of the video. The purpose of the video was not to show the most effective method of felling a tree. May as well ask, why didn't you use an industrial grade Husqvarna chainsaw?
