Did I miss something here? Tell us: What did the oil look like? If the dipstick sings "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard!" then walk away. I'm not sure what a head gasket job would cost on one of these but it is probably engine out and I'm just guessing with all the other things you WYAIT, that it would be around $10,000. Maybe more. Then again, while that car is old, it is in GOOD shape.... If there is no "milkshake" on the dipstick, then you are looking at something else in the coolant bottle. Ask to scrape it out and see what exactly it is. If there is no milkshake oil and the goop in the bottle is NOT oil then this is a good price. I'm a pretty good garage/driveway mechanic. But I would still pay a good foreign car shop that specializes in MB products to do a thorough PPI on this car. At least do a leak down test.
@VITOSGARAGE2 күн бұрын
We’re not scared of anything. We can fix anything. But we weren’t gonna buy the car for $6000. For $1500- sure, no questions asked. But not for anything higher. Oil dipstick looked good

@@VITOSGARAGE Wow, thanx for the answer. That looked like a good car for $6k, but then again I don't shop V12 MB products every day. I live in Fort Lauderdale but work in Memphis as an airline pilot for a tiny cargo airline known as Fedex; I would buy that car right now for $6k and use it as an airport car. Hahaha! A V12 Mercedes Benz airport car! I guarantee you that would catch me some crap at my crash pad from the other guys staying there. "Oh yeah, that was my mom's car for a while" "What, are you the son of some billionaire or something?" Tons of fun. -My spouse has had a GLC300, a GLE350, and now a EQE350+ and while I'm a committed Porsche man, these cars are VERY nice and they are not that expensive, though $91K for the EQE was a bit much.... Me and my crew flew into Bergamo, Italy one time and the company that our airline hired to drive us to and from the hotel usually used Volkswagen Caravelle ["Eurovan" in the US] vehicles. One day they were all spoken for or undergoing maintenance, and the owner of the company picked us up in a new S600. He spoke very good English. Climbing into that car I was "Wow! The red carpet treatment for three cargo airline dirtballs!" The driver laughed, and told us that they had a lot of business that day so he was driving and even using an "Executive" car for us. "These things have 400 hp 48 valve V12 engines I think" I said. My two crewmembers, both from Texas, looked at me like I'd just grown a second head. Hearing that I saw him smile in the mirror and drive out of the airport; As soon as the road got straight he floored it and went to 100 km/h. The car was nearly silent and the V12 pushed us back in the seats. These cars are basically the battleship Bismarck with a serious attitude problem when the long pedal goes down!

@@VITOSGARAGE W140 with the biodegradable harness is not a cheap fix to replace. When I say a cheap Mercedes is actually an expensive Mercedes, I’m not talking about replacing the fluids and some of the consumables. When you get to replace interior items, steering, suspension, window seals because is leaking inside ( just to mention a few items, for any Mercedes) don’t tell me it doesn’t get expensive even if you do the work yourself. I have 2 Mercedes cars and the proper maintenance is expensive. Usually the owners that have an extensive record of the services performed on their cars those are more reliable to buy from. I’m not picking on you, you did good you walked away. Many many cars out there are just piles and not worth it.
