I got NJPd and demoted a week before picking up Lance, so I became a private. I remember my ego being HUUUGE and no longer giving af about anything. Talking back to SNCOs, no more proper greetings, and being overall hostile towards my peers. Getting blasted was a daily, almost hourly occurence. Luckily, I was great at my job, and after squaring myself away and becoming more humble, I made it to Cpl before finishing my 4 yrs. I have to thank every Marine involved with believing in me and giving me a second chance because I could have easily been kicked out instead of getting NJPd.

The amount of people I saw get kicked out for stupid shit is just insane. I know guys who developed drinking habits and instead of receiving help were deemed “liabilities” and kicked out. Others that, after going to rehab for substance abuse, got liquor hazed then ratted on by their own NCOs and kicked out. Young marines getting physically beaten and jumped in by their NCOs for “training” then kicked out for “failure to adapt” because they’d spend more time recovering from injuries than they would at work. I know guys who got kicked out for literally no reason. He had no NJPs, no real punishments besides a few negative counselings, but driving over an exposed manhole cover and popping a govie’s tire because the DoD doesn’t properly maintain anything was what got him kicked out when there’s countless NCOs who totaled govies and gotten into multiple wrecks who still kept their jobs. I know another marine who wanted to go on career intermission to be with his terminally ill mother, got very depressed when that was denied, before it got to the point where he was also deemed a “liability” and kicked out because he was diagnosed with low functioning depression when she was dying while he was stuck on a base 5000 miles away. Despite it all, these very same guys scored high paying jobs after losing their marine corps careers. One is currently a firefighter in Atlanta. Many marines have very promising careers in the army and Air Force, becoming NCOs right off the bat when the corps refused to promote them past Lance Corporal. One is even currently in the ranger regiment pipeline and absolutely killing it while another is doing security contracting alongside the IDF and Mossad in Israel and Lebanon. Don’t let the corps’ treatment of you put you down. No matter what they say, you’re beyond capable of doing what you want despite the obstacles.

Thanks for the words of encouragement brother but I’m far from down. I spent the last 4 years of my career being down & depressed so I’m over it. I now have my freedom to express & some good VA benefits to go with it 🥳😂💀
