Hey there John! I have had my surf band going since 2006. Before each gig, I would have to lock myself away and play along with the record (our own music) for a couple of hours each day preparing for the show. The songs seemed very difficult to remember for me. Even though I wrote them! And recorded multiple versions. I'd write them out too. Now I use a thing called Guitar Pro software and I can write them out and play along with them slow if needed. So we have show Saturday and I've been reviewing seven songs a day for seven days before the gig and it's all coming back and I feel confident. We had not played a show since October so we are rusty. Jaguars are pretty good! I have four of them. My favorite was made in Japan from 1998. I want to move to Australia. The US has gone insane.

@brookhoover1384 i couldn't tell you how many guitars i have messed up, lol 🙄 One thing that i don't think ill do again is try to level a neck and recrown all the frets I guess some of us are better at other things, lol its why they pay the vig boys big dollars for that kinda work! But i do it all, a little here a little there. I build amps, effects, guitars, etc. But back to the nut, i think if its not too bad to begin with maybe take a little material off the BOTTOM of the nut, or probably better get a set of decent nut files and feeler gauges. Its probably why a lot of guitars wont stay in tune as well, lol i know that its very uninspiring to play a guitar that wont stay in tune, and the nut is one of many very crucial aspects of the guitar that just has to be right.
@brookhoover1384Күн бұрын
Exactly! I tried to make a nut once. Gave up pretty quick. Lucky to have a few friends who are qualified but they are so busy. I think I'll grab the super glue and fill in the slot just a touch and it should be playable. I agree that if the nut is not good, the guitar is not fun to play.

Amaj7 may not be very rock 'n roll but one of the first songs that I composed on guitar, "Into The Mist", starts out with one. To me, it's got a very laid back 70s feel. Something to chill to. As simplistic as it is, it's still one of my favorites. Someday, I really need to re-record it.
@brookhoover13845 күн бұрын
It does have that chill out quality that is for sure. It totally reminds me of AM radio in the 70's. It's a great chord formula but must be deployed with care. Totally triggers a certain mood don't you think?
@matthewg6665 күн бұрын
@brookhoover1384 I know "Into The Mist" gives me a sombre, nostalgic vibe. It started out with me going back and forth from an Amaj7 to an Am7. Took me forever to figure out what to do next before going with a Dmaj7. Mind you, at the time I had no idea what the name of the chords were. So, Amaj7 -> Am7 -> Dmaj7 -> ho to Dsus4 -> po to Dmaj7 -> G6 on the d, g, b, high e strings-> Dmaj7. Rinse and repeat.
