I am a FleetLithium Dealer, and I just purchased a 2022 Polaris 48v EV. I just received my twin 105AH kit to install in it. I think that’s a total of 10.75kwh. I’m curious to see your range with the bigger pack. If your buggy gives you way more mileage than mine, I have the ability to sell my battery packs as demos, and upgrade to a twin pack of 160ah batteries. That would be the exact same 16.38kwh pack you have. I also have a KZbin channel with EV content showing installation and performance of our batteries. Looking forward to your range test on this big pack. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5y2gotprbh5jdksi=VY9tt2hKFmwRq55J

Very helpful despite the low voice due to your cold. Is your Polaris still running as expected? I will be pulling my lead acid batteries today and replacing with the Big Battery Husky model (lithium).

Did you go with big battery huskey? I really don’t think that battery has the capability of discharging enough amperage for your controller. I think you will be tripping ( AKA shutting down ) your BMS pretty frequently. Which means you will be resetting your battery every time this happens.

good video, Thanks! You did not go at max range speed, I assume.

This was in max range - unless otherwise specified (i.e. when it got very steep). Stay tuned though, I installed some lithium batteries (Atlas-Ess 16.8kWh) and I'm planning on doing a similar range test when the snow melts here.

@@rivmountmedia I was warned about connecting Li-ion in series (ie. 4-12V). Apparently they don't charge evenly and don't charge below freezing. This becomes a problem with regenerative breaking in cold weather. Make sure your battery BMS can handle series connections.

also keen to know what range you get when finished mate

You bet - snow is starting to melt here, so planning on getting it out in a month or so.

Thanks for the video! Please do a follow up. It would be great to understand how you set up the stock charger and to get a new range test (incl some stats from the Battery monitor).

Sure - re: the charger - you can change the algorithm to a lithium profile, but you have to buy a $400 dongle to program it. Atlas-Ess does now offer a rental of this dongle. They didn't at the time. What I've been doing is the following. 1) Plug it in - after a while (say 3-4 hours) the charger will time out. 2) Once the time out occurs, I unplug the charger for 10 seconds and plug back in. Each cycle charges the battery up about 15%. When the battery reaches full capacity, the contactors on the battery shut off. I've been told by Robb at Atlas-Ess is that totally fine as the battery is protected. I like the cycling because the charger doesn't get to hot (it doesn't seem to run as hot as it did with the FLA battery anyways). I know of others who use a smart plug and have the smart plug cycle the power every 3-4 hours. I think this has been successful for them. I've considered it, but what's working now is working for me. It's such a big battery, I've only charged it about once a month so far through the winter. Re: some stats from the Battery monitor - I'm using a victron 712. What stats are you looking for? I still feel like I'm optimizing the correct settings for it but can provide details as needed. Let me know.

These machines are out of the box much better off-road than a jacked up golf cart. Now I've just gotta decide between the ev for silent hunting or gas off-road park weekends. Thanks for posting real world experience!

Glad to see some EV trail use! I have a 2011 that I bought last year and converted to lithium ion with used Nissan Leaf batteries. The weight reduction with lithium is substantial, but I have no idea what the range is. Definitely better than burned out lead acid.

Curious to know about your install. IE charging, BMS, and total kWh you have with the leaf batteries.

Thanks for the video. I have been looking all over for a real-world test like this before I purchase one.

You're welcome - I had been looking for one as well but couldn't find one, hence I made this one. Couple of quick notes. In this video I discharged this battery down to about 20%. The Lead acid aren't really meant to go down that far. In regular usage, I wouldn't recommend discharging below 50%. It will definitely shorten the battery life. They are great and fun vehicles. Indispensable on our farm.
