I love Gitlis but on this performance I feel like he only plays for himself and with very few nuances. He’s being kind of a show off.

He was the type of soloist who played at one tempo, his tempo - the definition of egotistical. Credit to every conductor that played with him.

Makes lots of mistakes :))) .. Enesco taught him the special vibrato ...otherwise nothing special but snaps.

6:54 - Gosshhh!!! What a cheeky tempo. When I was in university I read a book about Tchaikovsky's life and in regards to this concerto (in this section specifically) it was supposedly about [Tchaik] dancing with his secret lover. I can't imagine dancing romantically with someone at that speed!

Не думаю, что выбранный бешеный тепм может говорить о незаурядной трактовке этого шедевра...как раз наоборот - он все испортил...или я никогда будто не слышал ни Ойстраха, ни Когана - их эталонное исполнение...из последних это запись 1983 года Виктора Третьякова - уж он намного убедительнее...это же не каприсы Паганини, чтобы бравировать своей виртуозностью - это Русская музыка Чайковского !!! Здесь куда уместнее глубина и созерцательность, так свойственные русскому человеку... СПб, рабочий, 60 лет.

Toujours cette justesse discutable sur la corde grave, toujours cette branlette forcenée en guise de vibrato... Ah! bien sûr la virtuosité est là mais j'aurais voulu entendre du Tchaïkovski et non ce violonisme pulsionnel..

Jai 55 ans et grâce à lui jai décidé d'apprendre le violon pendant 12 ans... jai une petite nièce qui a la magie de la musique... elle a 19 mois... et je vais lui faire un atelier musical... peut-être une future violoniste 😊

Belle initiative...faite lui entendre le répertoire du CD Ivry Gitlis portrait chez Decca,surtout le cinquième CD où les diverses romances et morceaux sont plus courts et ravissants...je suis violoniste amateurs et convaincue de la richesse intérieure qu'apporte la musique😃

Came to this from Dave Hurwitz's review. Outstanding. Gitlis must have been ambidextrous because there's perfect balance and unanimity between his hands. Great accompaniment by Mander, unafraid of the tutti leaps.
