After this game we never recovered in the league: Arsenal 1-1 Aston Villa Wigan Athletic 0-0 Arsenal Arsenal 1-1 Middlesbrough Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal Bolton Wanderers 2-3 Arsenal Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal And when we were out of the race, we won meaningless games against Reading, Derby, Everton and Sunderland and season over. Truly sad.

Ill never forget this day, Saturday , early kick off, not before watching soccer am of course. Fast forward to the game, laughing at Adebayors new haircut when the camera panned to them lining up in the tunnel, because I was so used to the cornrows. Within two mins, laughter turns to shock as one of the most tragic incidents in Arsenal history (people will think this is a stretch but think back, it really is) happen to one of our players, who was really growing and evolving since the turn of the year. He would never get the chance to be what he was meant to be. Just a sad day. Walcott nearly saved it and tbh had me in jubilation for a good half hour of the game but we all know what happened in the last minute. Scouting for girls- she's so lovely playing at full time, a feel good song, but I was in no good mood at all. Even worse watching match of the day later that evening. I admit I cried.

Remember watching this at home and it was one of them where you instantly knew it was a bad one both tackle and injury. The reaction of the culprit, Fabregas etc said it all. I was at a non league game about 10 years ago Royston vs Rugby Town and one of the Rugby Town players got his leg broke from a bad challenge and again it was one of them where you knew straight away. Only time I've ever seen that sort of thing happen live in the flesh at a game and it was sobering to say the least.

"What a way to complete the double, what a place to complete it," Clive Tyldesley captured the moment perfectly. Arsenal had set themselves up for the double after defeating Chelsea in the FA Cup Final the previous Saturday, a match that became known as the "It's only Ray Parlour" Final, referencing Tim Lovejoy's infamous comment during the Sky Sports Fanzone Commentary, which he presented with Bradley Walsh from The Chase. This was before Ray Parlour scored the first goal for Arsenal in their 2-0 victory at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, in the first Cup Final held there. However, for Arsenal to complete the double and end Manchester United's three-season dominance atop the Premier League on their own ground was an unparalleled triumph, only surpassed two years later when the 'Invincibles' secured the title at White Hart Lane. What made this title-clinching victory even more remarkable was Arsenal's depleted squad due to injuries and suspensions, yet they still managed to secure the necessary result. Remaining unbeaten away from home, Freddie Ljungberg was at his peak, playing a crucial role once again. It was his shot that Barthez parried into the path of Wiltord, who finished it off. Having dropped only six points since their 3-1 defeat at home to Newcastle just before Christmas, which was their third and final loss of the season, Arsenal's story speaks volumes of their status as worthy champions. Manchester United's season can be encapsulated by Sir Alex Ferguson's words: "If you lose six games at home, you don't deserve to win the league." Terry Venables echoed this sentiment, pointing out that nine defeats, especially with two-thirds at home, were simply too many. This was United's second major disappointment in just a week after Bayer Leverkusen ousted them from the Champions League semi-finals on away goals, shattering Ferguson's dream of a final at Hampden Park, close to his birthplace. The quest for a fourth consecutive Premier League title was derailed by a series of five losses in seven games from November to early December, including three consecutive defeats to Arsenal, with Barthez's goalkeeping errors being glaringly obvious, followed by two home losses to Chelsea and West Ham. The season's signings were scrutinized, with Laurent Blanc and Juan Sebastian Veron criticized for their form, although Ruud Van Nistelrooy proved to be a significant success.

How did the fuck did Birmingham draw that, their team with shit or at best average except for Muamba, Forsell, McFadden, and Larsson from a Utd fan your fullbacks were top draw Clichy and Sagna, good seeing them play on this game on KZbin, even Adebayor and Hleb underrated players at their peak here. If I'm an Arsenal fan I'd play a 3-5-2 and sign someone in January, then you could win the league this year. If not it will never happen, Liverpool will slip up when Afcon comes. So I think Arsenal and even Man Utd this season have a chance, but Arteta should play a 3-5-2 at the back. Then you'd be unstoppable IMO. Thanks for this match, you were stronger than us (Man Utd) this season, but because of Gallas's meltdown on the pitch after the game, Eduardo aside you crumbled. Your best season/team since the Invincibles, I've never seen this match from Sky, as I didn't have it as a kid. Only the MOTD Highlights on the Beeb, this video is much appreciated. Great video, thanks.

You think Arsenal were better than ManUtd that 07/08 season?? You're dwelling on this iniury and not the fact Arsenal should've had 4 suspensions from the previous week where it was they hacking ManUtd because they were losing (and got beat 4-0 vs ManUtd without Ronaldo) and they only got 1 red card which was obvious but Gallas & Flamini excaped reds and I think Adebayor was the other (the FA even looked at those incidents especially Gallas and still let him off????) Those are more key players than Eduardo was, how many goals did Eduardo as a forward score that season again?? ManUtd had the best SQUAD that's why they won and ManUtd were literally the best team in the WORLD that year broke all sorts of records from here to 2009 so you're not a ManUtd fan if you want to pretend teams who won nothing and didn't even come 2nd in anything were the best instead. Just because they were top in Feb doesn't mean they would've stayed there, I was comfortable just like all the many other seasons they don't go more than 5pts clear in fact even 2002/03 which I think was 8pts yet I knew we could come back, what was Arsenal's excuse that season? They didn't have any, ManUtd were just far superior vs the top teams. And that includes when Arsenal have been in title races recently with ManCity always winning them I never thought Arsenal actually would and others were just as confident that Arsenal would win them as you were back then when watching your motd highlights.
@FootkerSnooball2 күн бұрын
Not to mention Arsenal rode so much luck for most of that season to still be in the race, they knackered themselves out with so many points won from losing positions but it was either get those results in an unconvincing manner or lose the title race way earlier.

It wasn’t an accident. He’s smashed into him with his studs up and all his weight into the tackle. It was the prime era of us being too good as a footballing side for anyone in the country so the way to stop us was to smash into us. Even Alex Ferguson admitted to turning to this resort of tactics

Still have nightmares about this game. We were flying until this point. And even though we ended the day 3 points clear, I remember being practically in tears turning to my girlfriend at the time at full time and saying i knew the title was gone. I knew we would never recover. As terrible as the Eduardo injury was, from a strictly football perspective it was criminal not to win this game. Played virtually the whole game against a 10 men bottom half team, the horrific mistake from Clichy when the win was practically in the bag, Adebayor not squaring it to Bendtner for a tap in at 2-1. This is the first time I have gone back and watched this game.

Think I mentioned it briefly on one of these uploads before but I remember the day after this game I went to Somerfield (now Morrisons) with my mother and at the front of the shop there was (and still is) a rack of newspapers with all the latest news.etc; Eduardo's injury was that huge of a headline that it was on nearly all of the front pages with the images of the leg break that have since been ingrained in my mind to this very day. This result was absolutely gut-wrenching and it pretty much signaled our slow decline in the 2010's. This one and the 2011 League Cup final loss (ironically against Brummies) during our nine year trophy drought were two of the most saddening Arsenal results in my lifetime imho - So much could have been changed had we won and the ref was awful too. Plus Gallas wearing the number ten and sulking like that *as a captain* - yeah talk about a leader lol
