I lucked out and had my Dad and Grampa by my side constantly when I was a kid. They both were top notch mechanics and my Dad was into offroad stuff and racing. Luckily I paid attention. Having 3 kids, a business, etc holds me back from building the stuff I really want to build because of time and money but in the meantime this scratches the itch a bit!

Hard telling without looking st it myself. I'm not a fan of diagnosing anything thst I can't put my hands on. Folks on the internet can speculate and give educated guesses but it could be a handful of things. Make sure there is fuel in the carb. Make sure it has compression (you can turn the engine backwards and if it gives ya a fairly good resistance when you try to turn it then it should have enough compression to start. You can try spraying starting fluid in the carb and seeing if it pops off. If it does then you still have a fuel supply issue.

I have the same engine on mine. Just bought it and as soon as you engage the clutch it shuts off. Any pointers?
@collinscustoms2 жыл бұрын
Making sure all cylinders are getting good fuel and spark is definitely a must. Might need a carb cleaning or rebuild. Might need to set the governor higher also. This one lugs down pretty hard when it first gets engaged. I try to slowly get the drum moving with the clutch before I fully engage it.
@tyler2burke619 Жыл бұрын
@@collinscustoms thank you! There’s a new carb, plugs, coils and I try to get the drum moving by moving the clutch in slow and it catches for a second then dies. How do you adjust the governor?
@collinscustoms Жыл бұрын
Should have adjustable rods connecting the throttle lever to the governor mechanism that runs off the fan belt system. Then another rod that runs back to the carb....thst should also be adjustable. Without looking at it myself though it's hard to diagnose what could be happening.

Hey what did you do about the pro not engaging and do you know what the belt number is for the pto. I just picked one up and everything seems great I put new plugs oil change painted it new guide wheels I just can’t figure out the pto belt and the guy who sold it to me told me the belt might be wrong. It’s tight when the pto isn’t engaged but loose when it is engaged
@collinscustoms2 жыл бұрын
Engine just wasn't running smooth enough for the engine to handle the extra load. After a full tuneup it mowed great. End of 2nd season the guy I sold it is still happy with it! I do not have the belt part number I'm sorry. If you get the tractor model number and use jacks small engine or ereplacement parts you can look up the part number for it and either order directly for them or Google search it and shop for the best deal. Sorry I neglected getting back to you! Hope you got it figured out!

Just finishing fixing up a LT 1650 myself. A friend got a new rider because he didn't feel like fixing it, and gave it to me. This one has the 18hp Tecumseh V-Twin in it. All it needed was the double pulley on the deck replaced, belts, battery, blades, chute cover, and I threw a new high back seat on it. It'll be great for using at the shop! Just waiting for the blades to show up... $350 in parts beats buying a new one!!!
