Lets advocate for doing way too little, way too slowly, and feel good about it? This is wonderful thoughtful work based on a total misunderstanding of the level, immediacy and momentum of the peril we are in, or the amount of damage already done / locked in, and the global dynamics at work. Relevant actions are not yet palatable. This research feels like an interesting snapshot in time, but essentially irrelevant in terms of how things will play out. This seems grounded in where politics and culture are, but unhinged from biophysical reality.

Lifestyle change was thankfully addressed in the UNEP Emissions Gap 2020 Report, but completely omitted in the 2021 report. Did the UNEP reverse course and decide that we don't need to pay attention to lifestyle, consumption, and their effects on the climate crisis? Is changing how we live no longer crucial, as it was in the 2020 report?
@leanedelaigue92472 жыл бұрын
Hi Lyle! Leane here with Climate Outreach. I had a chat with a colleague and she said this: "The UNEP Emissions Gap report often includes "guest" chapters to cover extremely important topics, and these are not necessarily areas that need to be updated every year - unlike the chapters on the gap itself, and country-based emissions and pledges which change each year. The lifestyles chapter was one of these important topics, and so our lifestyles chapter is hopefully going to be a relevant and useful resource for many years to come. There is of course always more scope for work on lifestyle change in outlets such as UNEP and elsewhere. As far as I know, the IPCC report will also include lifestyles this year".

Not everyone that says onto me Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven. So much extremism in the church at both ends. Katharine is so gracious. I was talking to my mother about climate change recently and can see this is a challenge for some Christians, but if we can't talk to each other in love how do we expect to reach the world? It makes perfect sense for us to see this in the sense of stewardship but if you can ignore the basic message of love I suppose your ears will be closed to a lot more.

So important! And need to think about northern hemisphere conversations and southern hemisphere conversations. After 20 years working on humanitarian and development efforts outside Western Europe, 10 years of which on climate change at local level in Asia - we need to make these conversations happen and we need to ensure those conversations are grounded in local realities, climate science risks being a barrier to climate change being everyones business. It is everyones business and conversations on how it impacts you and what you can do along with others to change are crucial - great initiative

It's very hard to get through to people 'on the right', because they only see the arguments of the right wing media, like Fox News. Take a look at this video from Secular Talk: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJLHqaWrbbx_m9k How can we reach people if they are constantly told that climate change is a lie, constructed by the left, because the left want to push socialism, to control them? Even if you convince the right-wingers that climate change is a big problem, the right wing media is creating fear about many other topics and is spreading disinformation about any solutions. Still, I have been trying to expose them to antidotes. I've shared videos on the topic of climate change. However, most of what I've found might be very convincing to me, but I've found none that are specifically designed to counter the 'arguments' of the right wing media. I've seen some videos and documentaries on other topics, that are very convincing. For example, the documentary 'Game Changers' had a great effect on a family member, who has started eating a lot healthier as a result. I thought that was special, because he is completely immune to the logic of climate change. Maybe he just hasn't seen the right video yet. However, I don't think 'An Inconvenient Truth' or Michael Moore's 'Planet of the Humans' will have the right effect on him. Can you point out some videos that are using the method you are talking about?

This is so wrong. It is producing propaganda using pictures of perfectly normal climate events, and claiming they are caused by climate change. There is a wealth of science which disproves most of what you are trying to project, but then you would not know that because none of you have a science background. The facts are that there are no increases in hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, or anything much else, including things like sea level rise, which has not changed for at least 3 centuries. Sea level rises at 8 to 12 inches per century due to the continuing ice melt which began 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. Wind and solar power are not a solution either. Despite trillions spent on them they produce less than 1% of global energy usage, and there is not enough money in the world to make them significant in the foreseeable future. Yes the climate is changing, but not enough to produce a measurable signal in climate events as yet. At a guess, I would suggest you are being used by the globalist propaganda machine to further their cause. Where does your funding come from?

Time to open your eyes. We have to STOP polluting the air. Cut the carbon. So stop talking and thinking about it - get started now: Reduce your carbon footprint. Take personal responsibility for your contribution to creating a safer climate and make the society climate ready or climate smart. Show others that this is what you are doing, and how you do it. Teach them how they can save money and become part of a more RESILIENT community too.

Listened again and shared this widely. On the subject of faith and science, this will be one of the great videos. Dr Hayhoe is becoming a great, great preacher. Now interviewed by George Marshall in a new and brilliant conversation. Starting 40 minutes in.. these are discussions I have never heard before. Thanks so much to all I can see why denialists have been assigned to attack this video in the comments section - it could be because it is so graceful, authentic and powerful. And not heard anywhere else. Thank you.
