I recently talked to an automotive painter. He suggested for fades to apply the tape and roll the tape edge over to get a better fade. But I think you accomplished a nice fade with the fine sanding! Good work on recovering the fade!

Joe, I have a 61 Impala that the maroon would look awesome on, great job on cleaning up the paint 👍, one thing on wet sanding metallic single stage paint will actually cut the aluminum in the paint, thus making it look weird, but I think with your caution sanding and the smaller flakes you hit a home run buddy!

Thank so much. I already promised the paint to the first request. I appreciate your feedback and support.

Hey Joe, the blended color paint jobs I have done in the past have always been with spray cans so that both colors were wet at the same time. I would start with one color and depending if it was the top or the bottom color would decide how I sprayed the second color. In your case you added the bottom color second so I would suggest spraying the paint at a downward angle so overspray doesn't affect your top color and vise versa if the top was second spray it at an upward angle. I always warmed up on some cardboard so I could see how the nozzles sprayed and how I wanted to blend the colors. As far as using an airbrush I haven't tried it but the same principles should be beneficial. So would having 2 airbrushes with both paints loaded and ready since usually the paint dries so fast. Cardboard is way cheaper then a model or the time you loose while the car is in the purple pond. I like your enthusiasm and your sense of humor. As far as the colors of paint you chose just make sure you have plenty of each. Practice makes perfect. Keep up the great work.

You make very good points. Thanks so much for the input. If I try this again in the future I will definitely remember your suggestions.

Good enough 👍 As long as you’re satisfied with the results. Now to apply what you’ve learned to the next fade paint job you’re going to do. Thanks for keeping it real Joe 😉 Happy 2025!

I haven't built a model in fifty years. I picked this GMC to start building again. Everything went great and looks awesome until I got to those one side of tires. I tried everything, finally tried gluing them and they came out looking like crap. Tossed whole model in the box and sit it on shelf out of my sight. I don't know what to do with it. Ticked me off.

I can't agree with you more! This wheel set up is the dumbest I've ever seen in a kit. Don't stop building because of it though! Pick yourself up another kit and enjoy! I appreciate you watching.

Really turned out great! You could change all the ways you mentioned but it might not be better? You could tape the fade to see, and it would be removable. I like it the way it is now. Nice job. 👍👍😎

If I were you, I’d let it drive for a couple weeks paint it mask it down when the line is to the silver or the same brown metallic and spray it that way so you’re not messing up. I think it looks beautiful. I’m working on the van custom model, but that’s what I would get blue paint on the line order. Is that paint and do it it would look nice Donnie Rankin.

Thanks for the tip Donnie! Given more time I would have done that. But this group build is due on the 31st. It's cleared now and didn't turn out that bad.
