I've tried 3D printing flexures in the past and they quickly failed. I discovered one reason is I was printing in PLA. You need a flexible material like TPU, PP, PC etc. especially if the movement is concentrated in a small length of flexure.

you can make some elastic ones with pla as well. You need like 0.4 or eventually 0.8 thick elemnts, and if you model something along 0:46 left one, that will be printed in a way the printer will do elastic in one run, it will be quite elastic. Just had printed part bended it over ~100 times and its still fine, if I don't exceed the maximum strenght it actually is quite durable :)

what is backlash in this context?
@MohammadHassan-ud8iq3 жыл бұрын
This is a good question, and I'm wondering the same thing. I've tried searching it up, but couldn't find anything. The general idea of backlash is the clearance between connected parts that allows for free motion in a certain direction that doesn't result in a transfer of force or motion (I probably botched that explanation. Here's the wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlash_(engineering)). In this context, there's a huge clearance between the pin and the knuckles (see here for terminology: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinge) that allows linear translation of the pin in x, y, and z, which doesn't result in any rotational motion of the hinge. They show this at 0:17 - 0:21. I think this is what backlash refers to here, but hopefully OP or someone else can clear it up.
