Damn, How I wish I could find a copy of Peter & Angelina Carberry's album 'Memories from the Holla, which these tunes were featured on. I lost my copy of that album and cant find where to get it anywhere. Her style just blows me away, and while Martin Q is quite good, it just ain't the same as dad & daughter.

Not an expert here, but I think it is to "lift" the tunes up a little. Matt Molloy has a CD with his flute tuned half a step up for some tunes, as far as my knowledge goes.

Actually, it depends. Most fiddlers play in the same tuning as the violon, so GDAE, but some tune it a half-tone higher and so play tunes a half-tone higher.

I was reading thru the comments below and I noticed how some guys were poking fun at the vid, citing how slowly the tune is played, while others, who are clearly more weill-meaning, had a thing or 2 to say about the players' breathing. But I believe the tempo is slow precisely because it is a tutorial. And if you try playing a reel with the metronome set to 70, you'll see that your breathing will be all screwed. And I think the player is TOMMY MARTIN who is an expert whistler and whistlesmith!
