Do they stop the rotation (every week or month?) for docking for crew and supplies ? or do they intend to dock to the rotating port in the centre (which may jiggle if people move from one arm to the other) ?

That'd be pretty uncomfortable to live in with gravity not being consistent throughout the whole station. Why not do a ring design?

The deorbiting of the ISS is scheduled for 2031, with NASA awarding SpaceX an $843 million contract to develop the U.S. Deorbit Vehicle (USDV). This vehicle will manage the ISS's controlled reentry into Earth's atmosphere, ensuring it safely disintegrates over a remote area in the South Pacific Ocean, known as the "spacecraft cemetery"

There will be a much easier way of doing this you could attach two of these mentioned stick space stations together With cables rotating perpendicular to each other this would allow the force of artificial gravity to be spread evenly across the entire floor of the spacecraft because rotary artificial gravity uses centrifugal force which means that in this rotating configuration the only surface area with the artificial gravity what would be the very ends of the station which obviously is a huge waste of space in space

I love the idea of space stations but there is not nearly enough detail here to understand how this can work. Working out from the centre the two "arms" would have the feeling of gravity on opposite walls to each other, which is not a problem but weird. Unless I am missing something, the station would always be given every object a push towards the ends.

Artificial gravity through centrifugal acceleration, has been a theory for many years, but we’ve yet to really experiment with this in space. There’s so much to learn. It’s a very new field.

Does the spinning create the artificial gravity?
@infinitium8460
@infinitium8460 4 ай бұрын
Yes, it does! The station uses centrefugal force to create the sense of gravity. However, the force is related to your speed, so moving up or down the station would lead to different levels of gravity throughout.

Cool thing is that all you need is a wide enough diameter and then extra launches for more modules. The circumference of the ring won’t be a perfect circle, but it’d be close. With a diameter of 7 modules, you can make a ring of ~22 modules.

I assumed the station would "roll" very quickly, so the entire station feels the same gravity, but instead they are making it "pitch" around in circles over and over again, so the entire station feels different levels of gravity.
@valheruguild
@valheruguild 4 ай бұрын
I think the idea is that you get a greater force due to the radius from the centre being much longer you won't require as much acceleration and maybe also the solar panels will always be facing the sun, it's very interesting I'm just guessing
@TheAugmentedMan1
@TheAugmentedMan1 4 ай бұрын
@@valheruguild true, if the solar panels where always moving away from the sun that would be a problem, then again I think its weird how the gravity would work. Like imagine being in between the center and the end of the station. You would constantly be getting dragged to the edge.
@BernardvonSchulmann
@BernardvonSchulmann 2 ай бұрын
I had thought it was going to be the roll and wondered how that would work with such a thin tube. I am not sure this is any better. Thegradient for the "gravity" strikes me as one that will cause a lot of problems. It also means that the tendency would be for everything to move towards the ends. How does one dock with this? Does the spin have to stop? HOw is the spin started, adjusted, or stopped? How is the mass balanced and what happens if there is too much on one end versus the other? With the roll, which it is really too narrow to do that, a ship could dock at one of the ends. Everything would fall towards the "floor", the outside wall I feel like I am channelling a membership in DENSA, I can not understand how this can work in reality. .
@BernardvonSchulmann
@BernardvonSchulmann 2 ай бұрын
@@valheruguild With the roll version there is no reason for the solar panels to change orientation if they are attached to the station with bands that the station can roll under
@malandr1
@malandr1 Ай бұрын
You cannot make it "roll" because the gravity gradient would be too important on a too small distance. The human body needs to receive a similar amount of gravity from head to toes otherwise you will get extremely disea. That's the number one reason why gravitational stations need to be that big, to be as far from the center of rotation as possible, hense getting a homogenous gravity feeling on the body, whereas it's at the feets or the head. It does not matter that much if some "levels" in the station are at different gravity intensity (far or close to the center of rotation, the human body will be fine even with a 30 or 50% earth gravity level, as long as the feeling is homogenous from head to toes, hense the big rotation radius.)
