@@MycoDogs I'm a bit of "Wana get it right the first time" kinda guy, and am trying to get the most out of my grow as I sank my last 100$ into this whole process, thank you very much for the reply, do you think going up to 2 inch for the side holes, under the latch is better, and do you think it would also grow other strains just as well if I did so? I have some very good genetics from a guy I know who's personally worked them for a long time, and he gets full flushes but is using 66qt tubs.

It's pretty easy to have low contamination rates with a SAB if you're already in a fairly clean environment, but only a laminar flow setup will still give you low contamination rates in less than ideal conditions as well. I rent an old house in Florida with windows that are overlapping glass strips. I can clean the house from top to bottom, run an air purifier 24/7, and have the sterile technique of an open heart surgeon and a SAB still gives me 65%+ contamination because no matter what, there's a constant supply of contamination entering the house. Nearly zero contamination with a FFU.

My first attempt came out the texture of jam. I did another batch cooking it longer (20 min?), until the drips could stretch all the way from the liquid to the whisk, but it came out like thick corn syrup. Two questions: roughly how long did you cook it for before it was the proper consistency? And how do you know if it is a cooking time vs. amount of agar issue?

What is the range of relative humidity in the ambient air where you grow? We get down to 12%.
@ObakuZenCenter22 күн бұрын
It doesn't matter, unless you live somewhere like a desert area with no humidity. The fungi get just about all of their water needs from the substrate, not from the air.

I do the same tek but without the top later. And I only use coco coir and gypsum, no vermiculite and it works great
@ObakuZenCenter22 күн бұрын
Gypsum doesn't do anything for fungi by the way. It's a holdover from when most cultivators treated fungi like plants and they're not. Fungi don't take up anything from the gypsum. All of the nutritional needs for the mycelium come from the grain, or whatever is used for spawn, not really from the substrate. The substrate is mainly just a water reservoir and structure for the mycelium, not a source of nutrition. Plain Coir is just fine and most commercial Coir doesn't need to be pasteurized either.
