Hi, there are two tradional spreads; I posted a video here on my channel with one of the two traditional ancient spreads. If you do not use them as explained in this video, the cards are laid out in 4 rows 9 cards each & you start the reading with the Merriment Card. This technique is also tradional. Important is to use the 36 cards together.

Thanks you for reaching out with this question; stick to the original card meanings means to the core meanings of the original instructions from 1845 that are based on the coffee card pack (oracle cards from 1796) and these meanings are german origins (but not anchor/ work interpretation, its common in Germany only in modern Tradition and not in true Lenormand origins) these meanings are translated in english in the phillip sheet. In my book, you mentioned in your comment at last position, all true origins are explained and how you can best deal with modern meanings and when they are useful or useless to apply.

Thanks for your question & interest in Lenormand Cards. 34 & 21 compared: 21 is depending on position & context an enemy, someone really being against very often in malicious way for example, and 34 can show others involved just Like competitors in job, in job interviews, but also in private life, in love readings for example the Fish can indicate a rival or that someoine else might be important or is interested in the Person oft is about; so Fish is not only in business it is in general in competitive (sometimes neutral) situations and the 21 is often very negative for the Person asking the cards. And always important position & context of the cards ;) Hope this might help.

Very informative and meaningful book that makes complete sense of PL history and meanings .It is so good as the market is overwhelmed with everything and anything that beginners are lost ,misguided sometimes (reversal readings with Lenormand and other inventions) and confused! I also appreciate the hints for GT houses.I was familiar with some of them but for the tree house for instance never thought about the fraud experience .Does it come to you by experience over the years or by linking it to GOH (going back to the forest to escape the tricky fox? When Schmidt took over the Kipper Cards from Matthias Seidlein they decided to change the position of the words on the cards & changed the pictures. Some say that it came through because of a wrong print, but it is not true, it is changed by free will, because the words on the cards are in right direction (example: the words on the prison building and the court, or the name if city Simbach) they wanted their own deck, so they made it change. The 22 is left because it remains as a sign that there was an earlier official version. For the message of the card this is not effecting.

I am not always friend with these directions, only if they are to find in traditional meaning or if they are matching with the essence of the card, and only when all 36 cards are together, in small spreads there is not sense in my opinion. Due to the fact that the harvest is to find on original images of the scythe card, it seems logical; depending on the context of the reading.

I only use directionality in the sense that - in general - the cards are mostly read from left to right in sequence and only if directionality is confirmed or makes sense by the original way of reading Lenormand, otherwise I do not give priority to it, because in my opinion, this is up to a certain part a modern tradition and can often mislead. ( to me, for example, is not important what direction the person is looking at) I was taught that all cards that are around another card have more effect or less effect on them, which is determined by the meaning of the different cards that are close to each other. there is not always a certain card to pick out only because it touches another - mostly in a GT every card is important, even if it might be out of reach and does not touch a card we see as important to touch. hope I could answer you question.
