They are the best opening act for Duran Duran that I've ever seen!! Addicted!!
@radiocremebrulee443128 күн бұрын
What is particularly noteworthy is that they are NOT some up-and-coming act. They are an established act with a string of hits on major singles charts across the globe. I am not sure if the audience really grasped the idea that they were getting a huge act to open for Duran Duran. At least at this concert, judging by the number of people that were slowly drifting in during Bastille's set, we got the sense that they were largely unaware of Bastille's star factor - and that's a shame. Bastille put on a far better act that we though they would. The only missing song from their set was the fantastic "Things we lost in the fire". Were you at this concert too?

@@user-pq7jj3vs3e Great show. As a radio DJ (our youtube channel is tied to our global online radio broadcast), we understand that the incentive system for younger artists is a messed up one today and it doesn't necessarily reward any sort of artistry. Of course, we're also not naive about the fact that the music industry was probably always unfair to some degree (I think some music fans are generally quite irate about the over-exposure she received in the 80s) but these songs absolutely stand on their own independent of the theatrics and image surrounding them.

Thank you so much for the comment! This really was a treat. I think she made some bold decisions on what to include on the setlist (something I wish more veteran artists/bands would do) instead of playing it safe. The concert was better off for it - especially "Bad Girl". The reality of this performance far exceeded any expectation in my head. Since you were at this show, you might want to check out out review of it (it is in the description of this video). I would also like to leave you with a couple of questions: 1) Favorite performance of the night? 2) Opinions on the concert closer? If you did not think it worked, what would you have opted for if you could have chosen the closer? Thank you once again for the comment!
@JungleRed7110 ай бұрын
@@radiocremebrulee4431 That's a thoughtful and on-point review. I also thought "Bad Girl", along with "Live to Tell", were the emotional high-points of the show. I was also surprised at how well "Die Another Day" popped (which normally would be song I could do without but, of course, had a new infusion of meaning within the context of the show). I agree that career montage should've have lead into the closer instead of that unnecessary and tedious Billie Jean vs. Like a Virgin interlude (although a song steeped in paranoia about predatory women up against one celebrating their sexual/emotional reawakening is an interesting contrast within the context of a Madonna show but doubtful that was the intended effect.) Segueing from the "the most controversial thing I did was to stick around" clip into "Express Yourself" or "Music" (especially a treatment akin to "Music Inferno" from Confessions) would've been more impactful as those songs are, to your point, universal and underscore the primary reason why she is still around 40 years later. The brief interpolation of the latter in the BIM number seemed a missed opportunity as that would've immediately hooked in the crowd - but the dominatrix in Madonna has always gotten off on edging her fans.
@radiocremebrulee443110 ай бұрын
@@JungleRed71 Thank you for taking the time to read the review - and appreciate the kind words. "Live to tell" was super emotional for sure. "Die Another Day", when it released back in the day, did nothing for me since in general, I am not a fan of ultra-processed vocals. That being said, for an artist celebrating a 40-year legacy, reminding the public that she did sing a Bond Theme over 20 years into her career makes sense to highlight -and the dance sequences across multiple ramps made the whole thing very dramatic. I echo your view on "Express Yourself" but I struggled with the stuff from the "Music" album. That's also probably why I struggled with the Drowned World tour setlist which I attended in Paris while I was an exchange student in France during college. It's also probably why we (I am attached an online radio station that broadcasts world - the link to the station is in our profile page) play nothing from the "Music" album - even though we feature other later year tracks by her such as "Joan of Arc" and "Ghosttown". I saw people walk out during BIM knowing it was the last song and I feel like that took away from something that was pretty spectacular. As I mentioned in the review, I always found BIM a little self-congratulatory, indulgent, and for me pretty cringe-worthy so it fell flat for me. Madonna is cross-generational (my mother introduced me to her music when I was a 3-year old and I still remember being completely bowled over by just how beautiful "Crazy for you" was and still is even as a kid) and had my mother joined, she would have walked out during BIM if she knew it was the final song.

Thank you so much for the comment Kat! We just put the clips that we thought we were able to capture reasonably well.
