Is it fine if it gets on brake rotors?
@THIS---GUY
@THIS---GUY 2 ай бұрын
yes it's fine bro, it's made specifically for disc rotor brakes as well Google A GUIDE TO CLEANING BIKE DISC BRAKES by WD40 WD-40 BIKE® Degreaser has been specially formulated for quick and easy removal of dirt, mud, and grime from the brake disc rotors. The fast-acting formula leaves no residue and can extend the life of your bicycle components when used frequently. You can use it on chains, cassettes sprockets, derailleurs, and cog sets. Once applied, the liquid starts to soften and solubilise grease and oil to lift it from the brake disc rotor easily.

DO NOT get it on rotors. You'll need to replace your brake pads if you do so. WD40 is a short term lubricant which means its still has a bit of lube in it, which is the enemy of brakes.

Uhhhh…. Hello WD-40 Specialist, what exactly is the point of this video? For me, it’s the best way to alienate your product from potential consumer use. If you’re only marketing a Silicone spray to lubricate a roller that doesn’t need lubricating, you’re missing the mark. Treadmill owners are looking to maintain their treadmill and lubricate the belt and deck in a way that benefits the life of the belt and the treadmill. This video achieves none of what a treadmill owner would expect from the WD-40 brand.

BAD IDEA!! Do NOT use any products with silicone in it on your weatherstripping!! You want a product without silicone because silicone attracts dirt and crap and it will DRY OUT your vehicles weatherstripping! The opposite of what you want! USE 303 AEROSPACE PROTECTANT that is silicone free and will take care of your weatherstripping the best!!

Every WD-40 video I have seen shows them spraying an already clean component. I would rather see a dirty or corroded contact sprayed then see the results. One reason I am critical of the WD-40 brand is that I have contacted them by telephone and Facebook asking about their WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner with no results. Two days ago I called WD-40 and the representative said she would pass my question to WD-40 and that I would receive a call or email - NADA. So, I don't know whether to spend/waste money on WD-40 to clean an electrical board with multiple connected wiring and relays, or go with a CRC product.

What's the difference between "WD-40 Specialist Dry PTFE" (also known as "Dry Lube with PTFE"?) and "WD-40 Specialist PTFE"? One is dry and one is not? Does the regular "PTFE" can contain any oil in addition to PTFE? Or is it just a different label for the same thing? These products are unreasonably expensive where I live. Just because it says "WD-40" on the can, they are almost double the price compared to CRC for example. So I will get only one can, not two. It will be used to lubricate my office chair. Which one is better for that? Do you recommend something else for this application? I would rather not use white lithium grease. It's too messy, and too greasy. I suspect anything other than silicone or PTFE may have adverse effects on plastic details.

The silicone one seems to be a good all rounder.
@samirgunic
@samirgunic Ай бұрын
When used correctly and for the right application, they all are good all rounders. So it really depends what you use it on, or how frequently you need to lubricate the same kind of things. But a can of silicone spray or a tube of silicone grease is always good to have for plastics and rubber based products like o-rings and plastic cog wheels and hinges on toys and what have you. The specialty of the product in the video is its PTFE content. PTFE is the same stuff that's used as non-stick coating on frying pans. It's like a fat plastic with high temperature tolerance. And it's apparently food safe, or they make it so in the process. So it may or may not be safe to use around food products, I'm not sure. But when in doubt, use silicone based products for that. There are silicone greases made specifically for use in and around the kitchen as sealants and lubricants, for water taps for example. PTFE also repels dirt and water. As the name Dry Lube implies, it doesn't run or drip like oil does. The term "dry" is misleading. It's not "dry" dry, it's still wet when it comes out of the can, but the rust inhibitors, cleaning agents and other additives that prepare the surface of the work piece evaporate more quickly than in a regular oil spray. So it's good when you need that kind of property in a lube. Like spraying something in a vertical position and you want it to stick to it and not run down and ruin everything else underneath. But PTFE also dries out and wears off faster than oil does. So it's often used as an additive in oil based lubricants. I would say it's over-used as an additive by the industry at the moment. In my search for the perfect lubricant for my odd application (office chair), I came across many different brands that do the exactly same thing as we see in this video: they combine PTFE with oil. For long term lubrication of metal components, PTFE is not a very good option. In combination with oil? Yes! But PTFE alone? No. And for machines or mechanisms that are exerted to heavy and frequent loads at high pressure and temperature, you probably want to use grease instead of oil. But for light use on plastic and rubber details, silicon and PTFE works well I think. As with paints and glues, the best way to know what works and what doesn't is to try it out yourself. You can't just read into these things, or it's very difficult to do so. I know I tried. I learned a thing and a half in the process, but I ended up getting a completely different brand and lubricant for my application. I did buy a can of "WD-40 Specialist PTFE". But it had an oily smell, and it was runny. It turned out it was not PTFE only, in spite of "PTFE" prominently displayed on the can, not as an additive but as the main ingredient. It also had oil inside. But it was not the "Dry Lube with PTFE" variant. So I guess that's why it was runny. I didn't want the smell of oil in my office, so I looked some more and found a "Synthetic Adhesive Lube" by Presto (a less known German chemical company). Perfect! It had all the right properties: synthetic (not mineral oil), adhesive (sticks, foams and doesn't run), and it's a lube. That's all I needed. Oh! And it too contains PTFE! It's made for automobiles, at least judging by the picture on the can depicting a hinge of the trunk of a car. But as the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover! Same applies here. It was a perfect fit for my need in the office. It even has a pleasant odor, like freshly installed piece of furniture or something like that. This is my new favorite now. I can recommend it. I tried the WD-40 Specialist PTFE on garage door hinges and it works great for that. I love that spray nozzle! Not only does it work upside down, it has a wide and even mist spray. It also doesn't drip or leak easily from the nozzle or underneath the button like some oil sprays do. By the way, spray cans that can be turned upside down are trending now. I saw that CRC has made a nozzle like that for their products too, but it's not available yet where I live. So that kind of nozzle is a big plus. I think that nozzle is worth half the price of a single can. But this WD-40 stuff is a bit pricey here (Sweden). It's at least 20% more expensive than in the US. But it does get the job done, and it does it well as long as you use it for the right thing, and I do love the cleanliness with this new nozzle.
