Looks like someone drilled two additional gas ports on the receiver. The original Type 99 only had one gas port. Someone drilled through the center of the mum & just before the end of the breach. I have a Type 38 that someone had turned it into a deer rifle. The 31.5" barrel stuck out too far for my liking. It looked odd & I was afraid of the barrel was not being supported for accuracy. So I came across an actual true Arisaka Military stock that I changed out. Wow this gun shoots flat & accurate. Loved the look of your Type 99.

Hello Just got my 20 inch Rock River upper super stoked. I bout the Lee 4 die set. Big question I hope you respond. I am familiar with tapered crimp and Lee dies in my pistols and the case mouth on the 450 controls head space. I bought 4 boxes of Hornady ammo for donor brass and checked case diameters at the mouth to be .4775 to .4780. Are you replicating that number on your factory crimping die? I ask because I was looking at a bushmaster facebook forum and oh boy. Hope you had a merry Christmas Bill

Hey Chris you’ll be pleased with that purchase. That round in the video shot three more times at three more deer last month and all three went right down. Two in their tracks. A big Buck that was heart shot at 100 yards ran about 50. Double lungs seems to buckle them on the spot. That’s good brass. I just went down and grabbed a box of the hand loaded 450 TTSX in the video. They all were between .477 and .478. Every single one. It’s not a huge heavy crimp. Same as yours. I just set it so it comes down solid but not too hard. My bullets creep a bit in the AR when I slam them home (don’t baby the action in the woods or you’ll need to use your forward assist or it’ll just go click and no bang). So I know it’s not too much. If your shells aren’t too long (which they rarely are) and you use that FCD. I think you’ll shoot great groups. Good luck!

Greetings from Ohio. That's the exact load I use in my 18" Ruger American gen 1. I haven't chronoed them but the 250gr FTXs hit the same POA as Hornady Black. Shots touching at 200 yards. I've taken 3 whitetails with 1 shot apiece with these loads. My only beef is the jacket always separates and slices my fingers when butchering/dressing. I picked up a couple pairs of nitrile coated kevlar gloves to use when cutting so I hope that fixes the issue. I really don't wanna change bullets when these perform so well.

@@buyUSA9808 thanks for the note. I’ll keep an eye out. Most of mine were within 50 yards and w exit holes - which showed good expansion. But. If you ever find a better bullet I’m all ears. Just not the Hornady FTX.

Bill, that's too much crimp for the 45 ACP. It almost looks like a roll crimp. It could just be the video, but it indeed looks like too much. This cartridge headspaces on the rim and too much crimp will jam the case mouth in the chamber raising pressure. You should have just enough taper crimp to hold the bullet and keep it from sliding deeper into the case under heavy handling, any type of inertia etc.

My wife ordered me a Ruger Gen 2 450 bushmaster. Arkansas passed it where straight wall cartridge during muzzle loader season. But we can't use semi-automatic rifles. Planning on topping it with a Leupold freedom 3x9x40mm 450 bushmaster model. I use Lil gun in shotgun reloading. Looking at reloading a hornady Interlock 250 gr or a xtp 240 gr. Bear Creek Ballistic has some nice 250 gr copper bullets. But 78.00 for 50 ct. Also going to try the 250 gr flex tip bullets. Alot of public land here. Is overrun with hogs. I would like to try the 450 on coyotes. But we can't use anything larger than a 30 cal.

Consider the Barnes TTSX. To me that’s the Cadillac and is lights out. Will run fine in a bolt. It’s about $1 per bullet but for hunting we pay for so much right down to our boots and gas. The tip of the spear needs to be the best. I never skimp on the gun, optics, or bullet. Good luck!

Military guns are only a value to someone collecting or historical value and that isn't many people. I buy old Mauser 98s from pawn shops then use just the actions for Highly specialized and accurate hunting rifles for sale . The 98 barrels + triggers go for metal recycling scrap and the stocks become firewood. My top best seller I make on the Mauer 98s is in 6.5-284 Norma with a Pac Nor super match barrel

@@bill_B52H_EW The rifles I buy from Pawn shops I look for Mauser 98s for the actions because of the time-tested fail proof they are. Once rebuilt using modern parts - the firing pin and spring gets replaced with a Tubs speed lock firing pin and spring - triggers from Timney get used - action is squared + bolt face is squared and barreled with Pac Nor super match barrels the accuracy is so precises shots can be called where the bullets will hit. My AR 10 uppers for sale are the same way in accuracy using Pac Nor super match barrels and I do AR 10 uppers in all of the WSM cartridges - 6.5 PRC --- 6.8Western --- 6mm - 284 win --- 6.5 - 284 Norma - - 375 - 300 WSM ---- 250 Savage - 6 mm Rem -- 6.5 x 50 Jap and more so a person can have a AR 10 in a cartridge that match the hunting they do. Most all of the AR parts come from KAK Industries and KAK is the only place to buy AR 10 WSM magnum bolts that also used for the PRC and 6.8 Western.

I think most of the firearms and milsurp collecting community agrees w/ your statement tbh. People don’t hate sporters, they hate “sporterizing,” if that makes sense. Lol If a clean, fully matching spec is up for sale, ideally it shouls be left as is and kept intact, but if already purchasing another example that has been either professionally sporterized or cheaply, “bubba-ed,” there is practically zero concern or debate amongst enthusiasts. At the end of the day, buying a “butchered” milsurp and touching it up or upgrading components like the already tampered w/ stock and barrel, etc. is respectable in my books, as the person doing is usually saving it from years of gathering dust on the “used” rack, about 90% of the time! Practically re-giving an iconic piece of history a new life and future as a hunting rifle that is now more appealing due to the updated touches. Part of appreciating milsurps is also appreciating the fine craftmanship of many different sporters that are practically gorgeous, heavy-hitting hunting rifles that have been reincarnated upon serving their former lives as WWI/WW2 firearms.

The stock started interfering with the trigger. And if the rear screw was tightened down it would interfere. Someone tried to glass bed to fix it. Then got lazy and the parts wound up in his storage locker where he didn’t pay his bills. So. Bad gunsmith who doesn’t pay his bills is the explanation.

In many of the original applications, these rifles had steel sleeves in the wood stock those trigger guard screws went through. Often the aftermarket stocks wouldn't include those, and possibly led to the interference problems you mentioned. Beautiful piece.
