President Carter was a very good man. But he was not prepared for the Presidency. Perhaps he was too good for the Office.

Honesty is something we are missing in today's world. He knew the influence he had once leaving the office. Rosalynn even commented that after Jimmy's presidency, having that stature helped them with all sorts of influential contacts to get more things done without all the red tape of government. My son joined scouts at nearly 12 years old (no cub scout experience, but our family was military so the content was familiar to him) figured out an easy way to land the 20 nights for the camping badge: Backpacking is three 3-day/2 night treks and one 5 day/4 night trek and this added up to TEN nights alone. By camping with his troop once a month for two nights followed with a backpacking trek once a month he was completing all his nights in less than 6 months. From what I understand this is one of the first badges scouts start and one of the last they finish and getting the 20 nights done really helps because the rest of the requirements fall into place after that. He had to go to summer camp to get his climbing MB to fulfill requirement 9b (repelling 30 feet on a campout) and attend a weeklong cub scout day camp for requirement 4 (teach webelos how to camp). He still has requirements left lol

This organization is a disgrace for letting girls and boys blend. It creates a terrible environment that’s not conducive to the morality and skills that are taught. Now there’s this always this off dynamic where both boy’s and girl’s are limited in certain ways, including acting in particular ways in front of one another. Boys and girls have plenty of time to socialize, play, learn together, work together and eventually date. What a joke. The libs that fought for combine sexes are the same libs that fight for gender equality and trans rights. This is just one more thing that people have done to disrupt the family unit and contribute to the decay of society in America. It’s very sad really…

Are you asking in general? You learn the Scout Oath, Scout Law, & what they mean… a couple of knots. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance and explain what each line means. The Scouting program overview… the Scout sign, handshake, salute. Patrol method, whipping & fusing of a rope. After all these requirements are met you earn the Scout rank… & move up to the next rank Second Class… each rank has different levels of skills & requirements. 7 Ranks in all… the Last being Eagle Rank which also includes an Eagle Project.,this can take anywhere from 2-8 years… but must be completed by the 18th BD of the Scout. Just one small piece of info in the sash section of the video regarding the Firem'n Chit and Totin' Chip patches: according to Scouting America's Guide to Awards and Insignia, they "can be worn as a temporary patch on the left pocket, not on any pocket flaps."

My son earned his Eagle at 15. This meant he was old enough to be followed by youth and adults, but it was not too late (17 or so) when he had to choose between school and scouts. We also said the scouts should get their wings before their wheels. Once they get their wheels, the wings will fly away. My son got his driver's license on his 18th birthday. Finally, just keep a list of the steps on the kitchen frig and ask "How bad do you want it?" Our troop has about 45 Eagles over the last 25 years.

When my son got his first badge years ago, we got an extra-long sash for him. I hemmed the top to take up about 2 inches of slack, then I sewed on a spare epaulet to it for this exact purpose. So far, it's been great. The only thing was that the kid has now grown to a point where we might need to get the longest sash because he's going to take after his great uncles and be taller than his dad and I.

What an inspirational and entertaining production! By the way, I've seen Col. Fossum before and heard the story relating to the knot used there in space. Evidently, this energetic and inspiring Distinguished Eagle Scout tells the story the same way each time, BUT, there IS a difference between the constrictor knot and the clove, hitch! I recall having the same surprised reaction the first time I heard the story (I think during a national outdoor conference at Philmont). The constrictor knot is initially formed like the clove hitch, beginning with a half hitch, but instead of finishing with an additional and identical half hitch, the constrictor knot subsequently finishes with an overhand knot. (View video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYSxk3d5ocqphtUsi=QEj1yeeZMKhI8qHr). This makes it a very effective binding knot with considerably more holding power. Congratulations to the very impressive Eagle recipient, and God bless Scouting America!

So he knew he didn’t want to regret NOT getting his Eagle rank.

Thank you for your comment and watching. Although Scouting is about building leadership & good citizenship, there isn’t a male or female that should be denied this opportunity. I do like the fact that they still separate the Troops into boy & girl troops, but are starting to experiment with coed troops. I’m not so sure that’s a good idea. Boys act totally different with boys. Same with girls hanging with girls. But this is forward thinking (coed troops) & Scouting is trying to stay up with the times. I personally don’t think at the Troop level this is a good idea… maybe give them each Two years in the troop first to get the Scouting fundamentals out of the way… then maybe after First Class rank they mix the Troop make-up. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for your comment & taking the time to watch. This is why it’s important to take Merit Badges at summer/winter camp that are Eagle required… BUT to prevent partials the Scout should take the initiative to find out which requirements WON’T be covered during camp. Yes… there are 3 Eagle required merit badges take a minimum of 90 days. Also, finding Merit Badge Universities will help… but a lot of Scouts do take the full 7-8 years to complete. There is nothing wrong with that. The goal for the Scouts are to earn Eagle, but as far as the adults we should do our best to help them become good citizens & hopefully learn some life skills along the way. Thanks again for your comment.

My wife and I joined Scouting as leaders in 1985 when our son joined a new program called Tiger Cubs. She went on to work at our local council office, while I retired in 2020. I served in all levels of adult leadership with Pack, Troop, Team, Crew, and as a district and council adult leader/trainer. I saw a large number of scouts who had completed the Eagle requirements by age 13. The largest numbers were members of a church no longer associated in scouting. During my time, I also served for about 15 years in adult district and council roles. Including Eagle Scout boards of reviews. As a Scoutmaster, I endorsed, referred or reviewed many young men for their boards. I also, by a scout's completion of all requirements, referred, but did not favorably or negatively endorse a few scouts. It always made for interesting boards of review. Board members from my own troop would always question my curious position. As THE troop Scoutmaster, I was required to acknowledge and verify all of the scout's completed requirements, however if I felt the scout needed more time in an actual leadership role, not simply one on paper. OR I felt that their maturity level wasn't ready, I declined to comment further. Seasoned board members came to understand me, and my position, while parents from my troop may not have. Curiously in one family that happened twice with two brothers. One thought I was being unfair and hard on him, and he transferred to another unit, where he received his Eagle. His brother chose to remain, and after he showed he was an Eagle, not only on paper, but in spirit, leadership and maturity, he joined almost 200 fellow scouts on our Eagle's Nest board. A testament of scouts from 1927, until my retirement in 2018. Several more of my scouts achieved their Eagle after I turned over leadership of the troop. Sadly, the troop was allowed to fold just short of its 95th year of continuous charter to its Charter Partner. Alumni of the troop and the Nest included many successful leaders of our community. And heroes who served in our military in every war and conflict from the past into recent times. I was a dinosaur Scoutmaster, whose time had come. While there have been many changes to the program over the years, including the massive restructuring that occurred after I retired, I will say that I believed as a Scouter then, and to this day, that having a co-ed program was way overdue. I am happy to see that scouting is available to all who wish to join, and achieve its highest rank, hopefully becoming the leader's our republic need today and in our future.
