Actually, have doubt if Amir Khan would have pulled this character this wonderful like Ravi Kishan.... Made for him role. Taren Zameen par was made for Amir Khan.... Both are perfect for both roles.

He aced the role of Shyam manohar, a small town cop who is more than happy to accept favors under the table, laced with humour and has his own fancies and opinions when it comes to investigation of the cases. But he is a good man at heart and stood up for the right thing when the time comes using his authority,power and legal mandate to correct the wrongs done to a girl whose only dream is to study organic farming, make her own identity and realise her aspirations.

good description, but how many big city cops do not accept favours? I would add one thing though.. even though you have said he has his own opinions, I think his judgement calls are generally good, except thinking that the girl is a thief,, like he correctly guessed that Pushpa Rani is making up stuff long before, or even when Jaya's husband slapped her, he didn't react but very intelligently waited for him to blabber more in order to frame him.
