Hey Dante! Just saw your Dropout episode where you mentioned "dragon blood" 😂I'm about 90% sure you're talking about nin jiom pei pa koa. It's a honey and herbs tincture designed for soothing sore throats and coughs (herbs being ingredients known to be soothing, like fritillary bulb, loquat, pummelo peel, ginger, Chinese licorice, menthol). It also has quite a bit of sugar in addition to the honey. It's lovely and very effective when used the way you described, slowly letting a tablespoon full coat your throat! The reason the guy said not to use it often is not because of weird ingredients but because it's quite a sugary treat. You should be able to find this pretty easily in your local Chinese grocery if you ever want to keep some on hand!
