This looks like a great method for making continuous bias but I have a queswtion. When you draw those first two lines, arethey 45 degrees? It doesn't look like itbut I could be wrong.

I'm learning to sew and using scrap pieces of fabric (don't want to spend anymore than I have to on throw away fabric). I tried this with a 21x 18 piece of fabric giving me only 3 strips which didn't give me enough strips to angle cuts correctly or just operator error. Any suggestions for practicing with smaller pieces?😒

Does your fabric need to be so wide? Does this work with 42” fabric? I’m thinking it does but part of me is saying “ask”!
@patsyspencer47462 ай бұрын
Nope! 42” wide works too! Sometimes I look for a scrap of fabric in my discard pile to see if it makes a decent size rectangle, one folded. There is no specific width, just try to find maybe some bigger pieces of scrap fabric if you have that. If you have some old fabric that you really don’t like, you might give it a test!

I’m confused, what size is your piece of fabric to start? If I’m using normal 44” wide fabric, do I cut 18” wide strip? T.Y.
@patsyspencer47465 ай бұрын
I think 18” would be just fine! I usually just pick up a piece of what’s leftover from a fabric I like and your size sounds good. 😉
@jandroid19625 ай бұрын
Also, if you cut fabric strips for rug making on the bias you won’t have all the loose strings to deal with.

@susanowen17095 ай бұрын
What an interesting technique! I need to make some bias tape today for a small project, so I'll give this one a try using a fat quarter. Wish me luck! EDIT - OK, I can see this working well on yardage, but I don't recommend it for a fat quarter. Since it's only about 18" long, cutting 2/3 of the way doesn't leave enough space to make a smoothly transitioning spiral. Perhaps if one cuts it only 1/3 of the way at first, it might work better. Anyway, my bias tape came out a little wonky, but I was able to make it work for my project :-)
@patsyspencer47465 ай бұрын
