I hesitate to disagree with Hilleberg, given their undoubted expertise, but if I'm erecting a shelter in strong wind the first thing I do is lay down my pack and secure it to the fly with a carabiner and line. That way, there is zero chance the shelter will blow away. Given that this could be a life-threatening situation, taking this simple precaution is surely a good idea. When I pack the shelter, I leave a suitable loop or guy poking out of the mouth of the stuffbag. That way, I can clip the fly before I even unpack it and expose it to the wind.

I have recently purchased a Black Label Hillerberg Savio 3 person 4 season tent. I have now camped twice in wind and rain storm here in Ireland (Galtee Mts) and both experiences were dissapointing..The wind seems to send the rain under the top vent cover.. I set my new Savio Hillerberg tent up at home in my garden and applied vigorously my water garden hose and no water in the inner tent..Mind you there was no wind. Having spent a small fortune on what is marketed as Bomb Proof is somewhat dissapointing.. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts or have I just waisted a fortune on a Hilleberg Savio tent that I cannot use on a windy rainy day

I have recently purchased a Hillerberg Savio 3 person 4 season Black label tent. My first night camping in a storm (Galtee Mts Ireland) did not go as expected... Once the wind and rain arrived I spent the night mopping up water from inside my new tent..Having done a lot of research on tents before purchasing one I decided that Hillerberg was the way to go..After all they are marketed as Bomb Proof.. After my first camping experience in a Hillerberg Savio I returned home somewhat dissapointed...After drying out my new Savio tent I set it up in my garden at home...I then vigorously applied my water garden hose and much to my delight and relief the tent performed as one would expect NO Water Instde Tent..Happy days So I figured as it was my first outing in my new Savio tent it must have been user error or to put it another my fault... Before my next camp I revisted the instruction video that Hillerberg have on setting up a Savio tent... Once again I set off to camp in the mountains during a storm. Accompanying me was 2 friends from our hillwalking club.. I think it was the excitement of the name Hillerberg that they came out with me that night.. Not long after we had set up our individual tents the storm arrived and once again I had water in the,the inner tent...My 2 friends who spent a fraction of what I payed for my Hillerberg Savio tent remained water free... From what I can figure out is the wind directed the rain up under the top rain cover. ,After spending a small fortune on what is marketed as Bomb Proof is not my understanding of Bomb Proof.. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts or more a remedy to fix the problem. A tent in fact any tent that let's in the rain is most certainly not Bomb Proof. I sincerely hope I have not waisted my money on Hillerberg Savio.. For the record my Savio performed excellently in the wind and we clocked the winds speed at 44 miles per hour.. The RAIN LEAKAGE in the wind was extremely dissapointing. Looking forward to hearing from you.

What an awesome tent. I'm saving up to get one for my land on the Beartooth front. If you haven't spent time in the Mountains you might not understand why you'd need something like this, (crazy wind/weather/storms). The fact that you have a tent this big that can handle the harshest conditions makes it an absolute deal. People that buy this need this.

There are plenty of good cheap tents out there that will handle the extreme weather, snow, rain storm, windy storms etc, they work just as good. Hilleberg's price is way too high & greedy in my opinion. Just being honest.
@undertheradar0013 ай бұрын
You put a strong enough wind against the ripstop fabric, and it will rip. The Soulo has smaller panels than the Hilleberg tunnel tents, so wind will more likely far less be able to rip (the tunnel tents gash rip at the rear if winds go over 70 MPH). The Soulo could do with a zip fastener lock to prevent the door blowing open in a strong wind (blowing against the door), and the tent being carried off; otherwise, it is a very stable tent.
@HillebergTentmaker3 ай бұрын
Hello. The Soulo does come with a red toggle fastener to prevent zipper creep and the keep the door from blowing open in very high winds. You can see that demonstrated in the direct timestamp link to the “Using” section of the Soulo Pitching Instruction video here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIHMq2eag99mmM0si=ozuuQVgkKKBUYWVV&t=437 Hope that helps.

However.... Try doing so on a patch of a hardly even ground where you cannot put pins in the perfect angles. All of your lines are off by 10°+, and wind is blowing from ALL directions. No skirts - no wind protection

Are you guys planning on bringing mesh inner tents to market for the Savio 3 and 4? I love your mesh tents because they allow you to use one tent for every season. Right now your only black label free standing tent with a mesh inner offering is the Staika which to be honest is a bit outdated compared to the Savio. I would love to know this before this fall hopefully when I'm gonna make my tent purchase as I'm sort of feeling forced into the Staika if I want a single end all be all tent that's free standing.

There is one very important thing you forget. The age of the customer. To be more specific, how agile or flexible is the person who uses the tent. I am 58 now and in good condition. I use the tent for cycling holidays. The big disadvantage of tunneltents (for me, not that agile anymore) is that I need to crawl in the tent. And I don' t need to crawl in a dome or ridge tent. I just walk in till the inner tent, go down and my butt is at the sleeping bag. Just c,ose the tent and I am ready.

Is that Bosse at 1:52 with an early Keron ?! Cool picture :) This is a great video. I first came across Hilleberg in 2003 and agonized on this topic for 7 years before my first purchase (an Unna). I've used all designs now and find the Tarra to be my all-time favorite. Best of tunnel, best of freestanding... Unna is the most underrated and overlooked. Extremely versatile - especially with 10mm poles on offer.
