Can I use a thicker material and no backer? I have a bunch of different faux leather from Hobby Lobby that I’d love to use. I’m going to convert the cut pattern to my Cricut so I can machine cut the pieces.

You can. You'll have to take the seam allowance off all around as it would be far too bulky to have seams with a faux leather. Then but the raw edges up together and sew around. It's a bit of a fiddle. I sell ones a bit like this in my Etsy shop made from cork fabric which behaves in a very similar way to faux leather. Have a look for some inspiration on how to change the pattern. I didn't put a plastic window in mine, but there's no reason why you can't. Good luck!
