Bought one new in January of that year. It had 88 miles on it. Sold it in July of 2014. It had in the vicinity of 460 thousand miles on it (the odometer wasn't working, so final estimate was based on my known driving habits.) It ran rough by then and had extensive rust, but certainly didn't owe me anything.

No matter what GM tried to do with that design, deep down its still just a Chevy Vega with fresh lipstick. I'll pass.

Loved that little car. When I went to the dealership to buy one in '77, the salesman showed me the Sunbird. Same car with a little more class. Pricing wasn't much different, so I bought the Sunbird.

Way better than the next ones with the plastic headlights and dash/instrument cluster. All it's missing is the tire rack. Is it for sale?

Well known and documented issue with the temp gauge itself. If you look around the internet, there is a quick fix for this (which I've done countless times) with a short strip of wire and a quick solder you're back in business with a MUCH more responsive and accurate "gauge." Nice looking car. Those are "Virgo" wheels (which will be stamped Germany or Norway) which are 15" as compared to the factory 14" steel wheels. Best thing about that car is the manual transmission. Thanks guys.

P0501 is a code for bad vehicle speed sensor. This car has two speed sensors: one in the transmission that provides (iirc) the signal for the speedo in the dash cluster, and an ABS sensor + tone ring on the passenger side, even in cars without ABS, that provides a speed reading to the ECU. It's (very likely) the ABS sensor, sensor wiring or (perhaps) tone ring that's busted.

I think you need to check the sender unit for temp gauge or upgrade to a g.l.t. instrument panel with working gauges and tachometer as well. If the temp gauge is working you have a problem 🤔

I owned a '66 Monza coupe. It was a beautiful car, and quite sound mechanically. It had a rare option: factory air conditioning, which didn't trouble the engine in most climates, but was probably unwise to use if towing across the desert. Mine had the Powerglide, a horrible transmission but very strong and bulletproof. Dual carburetors, 110 horsepower. It handled wonderfully. Practically neutral. These cars, throughout all model years, were basically very stoutly made, but had idiosyncrasies that were somewhat resolved in 1965; that would be mainly the handling issues. The push rod tube oil seals were a liability in all years, but a solution came when better synthetic rubber seals were used in the car. That was the primary cause of chronic oil leaks in all years. The late-model Corvair was a triumph by Chevrolet, but too late to change public opinion. I miss the car. It had a very unique charm.
