Hello, I am enjoying your video for the braid border because it will surely dress up a panel quilt! I am wondering what iron you use to press the blocks and how happy are you with the performance - is it hot enough, does it auto shut off too often, etc? Much thanks!
@bayhillstudio12 күн бұрын
I use a vintage no steam iron. Vintage irons get hotter that new ones do. I bought one that burned right through my fabric! This one is perfect. Super hot, but not too hot. Gives me nice crisp seams every time. There is no auto shut off. This is just a bare bones basic vintage iron.

What are the measurements of the finished quilt? I LOVE it and am making one too. Thanks.
@bayhillstudio12 күн бұрын
I don't remember what the finished measurements ended up being. I'm guessing the bookshelf border added an additional 8-10 inches to each side. I also added several smaller border strips, so I would guess all of the borders total added an additional 14" or so to each side.

Hey, this was one of the best tutorials I've ever seen! I love how you get straight to the demonstration. No long-winded intros, no repeating the same things over and over. Your instructions are super clear and just what I needed to do this block efficiently. Thank you for posting!!!

I heard if you coat the balloon in petroleum jelly then the balloon releases easly with no glue in between. Also I find it easier to paint the glue on the balloon then add string then coat everything with glue. Your ornaments are very pretty. Thanks for sharing.

Carefully iron everything flat. You could use adhesive bonda- web or similar lining (interfacing )fabric on the space between the two layers to stabilise the tear. When it`s all stuck together, run a couple of rows zig zag machine stitch in matching thread along the tear.

where do you put the oil on the bobbin part? the instruction/picture not great ?

Yes, the instructions are terrible. There's a little pointy hook part on the edge of the bobbin casing. I put the oil there.

I like how you used thrifted items. I used to feel uneasy giving people second hand stuff but sometimes you find something perfect for someone. The whole gift basket is beautiful. I hope the bride loves it.
@bayhillstudio4 ай бұрын
So true! I wasn't sure about it - you never know what someone will like - so I checked with her mom first, who confirmed the bride loves vintage thrifted treasures, so I had the green light to really have fun with this gift.

First, this quilt is gorgeous and I love love love the orange and brown to a beautiful winter-sky, slate blue. I am excited about this border idea, and your instructions are clear and easy to follow. I recently bought 2 panels that are very busy, so I wanted something that wasn't too simple (like 1-2 borders of solid color fabrics), but I didn't want to compete with the image. This will be perfect! I also appreciate your suggestions/reminders about matching the color values even if the exact colors aren't in the quilt. Thank you!

I was wondering. Thanks. I was wondering if Pellon 805-Wonder Under would work to adhere to the lining and no vinyl cover for the front of the candy bag. What do you think? 😊
