Hej Dean, the whole idea with this video was to help to inform those who are considering an awning for their adventure vehicles. Clearly I have helped you with your decision to buy another brand, they're not all perfect but on the other hand they are not all bad either, what matters is what suites "our" needs. At the time I bought this 270° awning, the brands you mentioned were and as far as I know are still not available here in Sweden other than Rhino which for me (like you said) fell to the bottom of my list. Thanks for your comments and all the best with the awning that you eventually buy which I'm sure will suite your needs as required.

I would say several kgs as it does not have flat bottom for the tray, no gas struts plus I did my best to keep this drop slide as light and strong as possible. This one does weigh between 8~9 kgs. A friend's brand name drop slide, we figured it was double in weight but I would recommend googling to compare figures.

Hi Steve, excellent question and my answer would be no. The 22cm forward distance would be too short because of the swing of the bottom platform. My suggestion is to mock up the mini kitchen with your fridge, then using thin pieces of plywood to mimic the dropslide swing when lower and raising the bottom platform. With 1.5m HD slides you should have plenty of space for your setup.

You welcome, I'm no KZbin expert but I hope I encouraged others to make the dropslide rather than dropping a huge sum of money. Yes I agree to using longer sliders, I'll make the whole assembly easier to make mad work with. With that said, mine still works perfectly even today with it fully loaded with woobly pops. 😉 Good luck with your dropslide.

Until your in snowy streets or icy conditions. For all around driving in winter I like truetrac diffs. Had vehicles with both but I seemed to benefit more from the truetrac vs the Locker

Thank you for your comments Corey. I'm 100% with you on some kind of rain awning at the door plus better air circulation. Lots of planning and prep is needed by us just before going to bed, sometimes we are successful mostly we're not. LOL Even with the rear window open 10cm every night we get condensation, just image if you could crack the doors open a bit without the fear of rain coming in, that would make such a difference. We did get wet bedding while travelling last year but I can't blame it on the RTT, it was an unusually wet year for us, continual rain plus driving down the road, eventually the rain water was going to make it's way it. But the biggest issue we have which we did fix is the mesh, it's simply not suited for the Nordic environment. Getting eaten alive when your trying to relax still needs to be addressed, I did send an email (to which I never received a reply) pointing out the short falls that I did experience. I can only hope that like their closes competitor (AluCab) that they will listen to their customers and improve/upgrade their product. But with all that said, it's still a good product that we like. Even with the few short falls, if they are addressed in the future they will eventually have an outstanding product.

@@tukocan I had several minor issues right from day one such as the strap that holds the awning open snapping in very light wind conditions, the stitching on the outer bag failing, causing it to leak. The main reason I regret buying is the poor after sale service. I have been trying for weeks to buy a small aluminium extrusion that joins the arms to the hinge. It snapped in gust of wind. Until it's replaced I can't use the awning or even pack it back in it's bag. Thankfully I don't have any more road trips planned for the next few months.

@@Edge-dy9fh Thankfully I've not had those poor quality issues but I will say that I'm forever drying it out. The outer bag is not waterproof, because of it's design or how it's applied/mounted to the back plate, rain water enters instantly. Also I've already noticed the 4th arm ( the last one closest to the rear door) sags, fingers cross the extrusion doesn't fail. Have you tried googling to buy the extrusion else where's?

@@tukocan I have the same problem with it being wet all the time and the same arm as you mention, dropped and buckled the first time I opened it. So make sure you Support it’s weight when you unfold it. Also the locking cams inside the legs are starting to rust on mine, I would consider spraying them with something like wd40.

Mike you hit the nail on the head, a truetrac is definitely value for money which would help you in your trips. Matter of fact, any posi would be beneficial.

Love their products to. Today the landy has 2 Ashcroft Air Lockers, with all of their gear. My Defender will eventually get the same setup as you, simple install and forget traction aids.

To read the words, "The Land Rover goes places in just 2WD now where it used to scrabble about in 4WD..." only serves to corroborate the many positive reviews of the genius of the helical-gear-type LS differential. We're putting one in the drive axle of a 2WD to aid fair weather, light desert travel. We have been waiting a few years! for this particular application, so we are quite excited. Cheers!

I had a Chinese side awning and I can tell you that a Chinese 270 awning can't even come close to the quality of this awning.

Totally agree with you, I've shown my drop slide to many people who all have asked if I'd make one for them. I could easily make a "fair" profit from them but I don't have the time to invest in this project. I do hope that these videos did and do inspire people to keep their cash and make it their selves. It's a jungle out there and it's not easy to find the "right" 270 awning that will suite your particular wants & needs. I was nearly on the money with this one, just a shame that the provided changed production methods without notification. With that said, it's still a top contender and we are happy with it. Another provider that began making 270 awnings after I bought mine is Quick Pitch, maybe theirs will hit the nail on the head for you? Thank you for you comment and good luck with your purchase.

See my other video's, it does work and has been for sometime without any issues even with a fully loaded fridge.

@@tukocan Ah yes, very good. I see that your shelf in the Land Rover is set back at least a couple of inches from the inside closing edge of your Landy door, so that the when your fridge overhangs the sliders it does not cause an obstruction. I don't have that luxury, I need my fridge to retract all the way back on the sliders. Still trying to figure out how this can be done...

Those pieces of metal I cut them slightly longer than the slides. Once everything was assembled I welded tabs on the front ends for the locking pins to go through. They should be no shorter than the slides for support but you can make them as long as you wish or available space allows you. I made mine as compact as possible because of space limitations in my Land Rover but if you have a pickup or the likes, you can make the drop slide larger to carry additional items. Cost cutting is exactly what it was. I can live without the tiedown "straps" but the zipper change on the awning is frustrating. We have used the awning in zero weather where it is more cumbersome to use the walls and I do worry that one day I'll pull too hard on the zipper and break it. But still with the few faults or the changes that were not known at the time of researching and purchasing, it's a fine product.

A 9 year old video mate, I've since upgraded to air lockers.

that is a perfect upgrade...you have the option of being locked or opened...!!
