The audience can tell? Then how do you explain the popularity of acts like Creed or Bush? No way grown men play that crap 'cause that's what they want to hear.

aw man that's sad to hear. i never knew the background on this. nobody's the bad guy though, right? i saw puelo with swans and he was the big draw. DID NOT DISAPPOINT. that cop shoot cop album 'white noise' is really out there and real close to my heart. it's a litmus test.

Lots of Punk and especially Metal is so contrived. The angst, the anger, the hair, the clothes, the attitude, the poses, the guitars at knee height. Quite pathetic really.

There's always been music fads or crazes through time. Waltzes, polkas, big band, Charleston, rock 'n roll, punk, dance, Merseybeat, funk, disco, grunge, Britpop to name but a few. It's all about cashing in while the fad lasts.

Nevermind is a “happy pretty album”? Who’s the dumbass here? Only someone who had never even given the album a fair chance would say that about it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been listening to Steve’s music for over 35 years but dead or alive, only a real dumbass would say that. Someone who really only says things to be different from others and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Sorry to break up the mutual admiration society meeting here but he was constantly saying dumb shit like that just for attention.

Geezus. Nevermind sounds amazing and so does In Utero. I also wasn’t as much of a fan of a Nirvana until In Utero but the criticism of Nevermind’s production was overblown. Both fantastic albums.

Nevermind sounds fine if you only know Nirvana from that album and its hit singles. Compared to Bleach and especially compared to their live sound, the album falls short. It's a highly polished, nearly sterile sound that works well for popular music (stuff like U2, REM, RHCP, obviously Garbage), but it's not really the sound of Nirvana. Albini's approach is much closer to what the band actually put out on stage and in their demos.

@@davideberhardt6150 all a matter of opinion. I do prefer In Utero but, like I said, the criticism of Nevermind is overblown. Polished isn’t always bad and raw isn’t always good. Goodness knows that some Misfits albums could have used some polish. 😄

Albini is still such a hipster. You can clearly hear how good Nevermind is through the clean production. The songs hold true and are still great. Just jealousy of Butch, lack of acclimation with the state of Minnesota, edgy 1980s lyrics from Big Black... Albini wouldn't have a name today without Kurt Cobain

This will be very unpopular opinion here but i didn't like the sound at all. This is an album not a boombox recording. I hate the heavly reverbed drums. I hate how kurt's volume is under guitars. I hate the muddynes. I hate how thin it sounds. Overall it sounds like a live performance instead of an album. Well if you want the raw experience, record a live version. What is the point of live sounding stuff in the studio.

For me, "In Utero" is their best record but I do agree with those who said the band should have waited to release such a "difficult" record so soon after "Nevermind". Then again, if "In Utero" was released after the bands' second or third record it would probably be nearing the end of the average listener's attention span cycle and it would have been filed under Nirvana's "forgotten" record and only heard by their most hardcore fans.
