How hard would it be to add an SSD, and move Windows and everything to it? Then remove the original? I want to replace the original because people are saying Adata is trash. Plus the Samsung comes with heatsink

Not hard at all. Use something like disk wizard to migrate it. Should be easy!

If you want to use for modern tasks, absolutely, but sometimes people build retro machines to get the authentic experience from that era, or because it's needed for some specific task at work (running legacy software for machinery, for example). As enthusiasts who are making computers for a windows XP LAN party to relive those days, this is a huge help!

Good video! I have a 2013 2TB Time Capsule, 2x Airport Extremes & 1x AirPort Express. I was using these up until early 2024 when I upgraded to a WiFi 7 Netgear Nighthawk Router which is less than 6 months old and completely stopped working. Factory Restored and was able to get it to work but decided it’s going to be too much of a headache to setup all port forwarding again, I’ve gone back to Apple and setup a complete “mesh-like” network and it works flawlessly. I never had an issue with them previously. The Nighthawk had to be reset a lot and didn’t have any fans despite getting excessively hot due to WiFi 7 most likely.

I really liked the video, very helpful but i got a bit of a question, So im looking to upgrade my pc a bit, i have a I7-4790k, 16gb ram, and a nividia geforce gtx 1080 on a MSI Z97-GD65 gaming motherboard, would it ever make sense or is it even possible to sli link two 1080 gtx's or would it make more sense to upgrade to the 1080 ti then potentially sli another 1080 ti down the line? or just go for a better card all together?
@CanadianComputerCollector4 күн бұрын
SLI is possible but requires the game to support it, and since SLI has been dead for a few years now most newer games don't support it. With your current system you'd be better off spending that money on a better cpu. An AM4 Mobo and ryzen 2600 or 3600 would be a HUGE upgrade and cost about the same as a 1080ti. You'd need DDR4 ram too but ddr4 is pretty cheap right now and 16gb would be plenty. Sell off the old stuff to subsidize the upgrade and you're good to go for modern gaming at 1080p or even 1440p depending on the game!
@SoSuspicious_3 күн бұрын
@CanadianComputerCollector thank you very much, super helpful, didn't know much about sli to begin with, wasn't aware it wasn't used anymore
@CanadianComputerCollector2 күн бұрын
@ yeah it was always a bit janky even if the cards were perfectly matched from the factory. You'll be much happier with a CPU/Mobo/Ram upgrade, and you'll be able to sell off your existing one to make it quite affordable!

I've turned a could of these into PCs. One was a Hackintosh, the other was my NAS. They're both currently in my attic. I always intended to turn a G5 tower into a PC case, but ended up selling both of those to clear up space. Maybe some day I'll get around to it. This is definitely a fun project. Much better to repurpose these awesome cases than to trash them.

But for some reason the note 9 just keeps calling me back, these new phones just don't cut it...that pressure sensitive area at the bottom of screen and the curved edge screen and the app drawer the note 9 had....I'm going to replace the screen and battery myself to practice and use my note 9 again...

@CanadianComputerCollector12 күн бұрын
Depends on your use case. The nvenc encoder means you can record/stream on a 1080ti without taking a hit to gaming performance, for example. If all you care about is raw performance and you can get them for the same price then by all means get the newer card, just keep in mind it isn't always purely about performance for everyone.

I have so many eWaste projects to do this year - and, honestly, time has been a huge factor. This has inspired me to revisit: 1) Turning a 2009 iMac into a table top RPG map display. A very upgradeable machine, a 27" inch screen... This requires removing the stand and box mounting it, possibly sending display signals through an adapter in target display mode. I have been afraid of not being up to the task, despite having been into more than one of these computers and knowing it is possible - but no one else has done it, because, well, it's very niche. 2) Finishing the Beige sleeper that I keep being very, very anal about - I have a pristine 2000 era Dell machine (yes, yes, I kept the parts - but my retro-gaming is either older or newer or Mac). The front power button needs jumpers as it is proprietary and I have a whole new motherboard in the system. This was supposed to be for Tech Ambrosia's challenge in October, but I just couldn't button it up in time due to my real life work stuff. I didn't want to jank the jumpers, despite being pretty sure I understood the process. (Edit: I even pulled a much later rear fan Dell power supply from a computer I was given solely for data-recovery, but it only has a single six pin - but it was an exact fit from 11 years later). 3) Finding an old All-in-One PC and installing a 'integrated graphics' board into it - I have the board, but lacked the confidence to cleanly install it in anything. These boards were designed for the ill-fated bare bones AIO screens that were produced for a couple of years in the late teens. I have always strived for clean work, since I started tinkering - but I have yet to learn proper soldering, largely following tutorials on modifications, and doing a lot with copied code manipulation. I haven't embraced my jank, and this is just a hobby. There are things that I am more comfortable with that I don't do... musical instrument modifications, household stuff... and this latter one is something I embraced jank on a long time ago, I bought an old house - it is hard to keep up, especially after 23 years. Anyways, thanks, someone needed to say this - if I can get some time off from plying my trade as a chef for a month (in Vermont, bad time of year for this) - I will join in... Heck knows, I already missed one challenge because I feared the sacred Jank.

@CanadianComputerCollector15 күн бұрын
@@MP_Dalastdon16 it should work for everyone. Be sure you followed these steps in order. -Install and open iTunes before plugging phone in. -plug in phone -go to phone and follow prompts to trust device and login -agree to trust device on computer if need be. -open file explorer and open phone file -wait a sec for folders to appear -large vid files should appear as well. Keep in mind this isn’t a tutorial for exploring your phone on windows, it’s to see the large video files that are hidden in those folders. If you don’t see the folders you may need another tutorial to get help for that.

Early last year, I acquired a clamshell iBook G3 and upgraded it with an SSD, but the top and bottom case didn't quite go back together and the screen assembly crackled alarmingly when opening due to misaligned tabs. As such, I opened up the iBook again to fix those structural issues from the initial upgrade (and opened it up a third time to install a bigger SSD). My first upgrade on the iBook was successful; my subsequent work was a genuinely good job.

Try a different headset to see if it works. Also try installing/reinstalling drivers. If the headset works on another computer and you can't figure out drivers, just format your boot drive and do a clean windows install. It's the nuclear option but fixes most software issues without advanced troubleshooting.
