Under "Equipment", what if I have Mode C Transponder AND ADS-B OUT ? What do I put in the #10 EQUIPMENT dialog box??? I can't put /C and /B1. So what to do?
@KimWentworth-y8e Жыл бұрын
A lot of pilot will not use this because it is not easy to use. They need to make it much easier for the pilot so that you do not have to research multiple sites to get your aircraft type, and equipment. Also, some of the other codes are confusing. I am learning this as a student pilot and I think they should put all of the look up codes in one spot.
@joestandley Жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. The flight plan forms used to be much easier and they are more confusing now with all the different codes, etc. As a student pilot, your instructor should be teaching you all the current info, where to find it and how to fill out flight plan forms so you aren't struggling so much with it. Also, there are multiple ways to fill out a flight plan like using foreflight but even with those, you have to set up the aircraft profile which will require research on proper codes. It really is confusing, I agree. Especially as a student pilot. I tried to make things easier and show where to find the codes because it isn't very clear, but as always things change and we as pilots are expected to keep up with the changes.
@KimWentworth-y8e Жыл бұрын
Your directions to the get the aircraft type is all wrong. The screen no way looks like the screens you have and there is no search button. So this will be a question I will have to ask.
@joestandley Жыл бұрын
I'm confused as to what you are saying. There are many online forms since this video was made that have their own search functions and their own layouts which will allow you to write in plain language. This is just a form from the FAA. When you put your aircraft type, just like filling out an iacra form, an online FAA form requires it to written an exact way. For example, I may not be able to write PA28, but P28A will work. If you were to call in and file your flight plan you would just say Piper Warrior and they would probably know the code their system requires. Other online forms may recognize different ways of writing the abbreviations. Also, things change, this video was made 7 years ago. It is still the same form that the FAA has today but searching for plane codes could have been changed since then. If you know your planes code, PA28, C172, etc. just put it in. If it doesn't work then research the way they want it. Most people are putting their airplane profiles in foreflight these days and filing from there which makes things easier. I hope this helps clarify any misunderstanding.
@KimWentworth-y8e Жыл бұрын
This does not go to this screen. Screen is different. You now get the codes from the FAA.
@joestandley Жыл бұрын
Everything changes over time and the FAA loves to change website links, etc. Just when you get used to something they change it. This video was made 7 years ago. The info is the same but where you find info is always changing with every business. If you know of any changes in where to find info, please share it in case others cannot find where it has moved to. Thanks!

Under number 9 ForeFlight says that if there are 3 total aircraft, one should place the number 2 to indicate how many other aircraft are flying with you.
@joestandley2 жыл бұрын
This is directly from the instruction sheet from the FAA. It does not say list the number of aircraft in addition to yours. See wording here: Number of Aircraft (Item 9) when there is more than one aircraft in the flight; indicate the number of aircraft up to 99. If you are using foreflight, they may automatically count your airplane so I would do what foreflight says. When filling out the form by hand or calling it in, I would do what the FAA says above.

This apparently hasn't happened all the way yet. As of 4-24-21, the FAA website says it's "preferred", but only mandatory for certain flights (international and some other criteria).

What is the full form of priority FF
@joestandley3 жыл бұрын
That is only filled out by air traffic control services. I believe it is for prioritizing control and flow of traffic.
@xndr313 жыл бұрын
Let me clarify that, Priority FF are for ATS services messages. There are other priorities like KK ( administrative msgs), GG ( Aeronautical Informations like NOTAMs, weather messages like METAR, FF, DD, SS ( Emergencies messages). Priorities were made for Aeronautical network. Messages are prioritized according to their importance. Then, there are addresses of ATS services Wherever the plane will fly to its destination. In the past, right before internet, the Aeronautical network was a hardware communication service, which works with channels. They were created to meet the need for communication channels in the past. The ICAO form was made after the message. That is why the fields do not have a logical order. Observe how the message is sent to the air control. This is an example using the same information from this video. FF KCXXZQZX 250100 KCXXZPZX (FPL-N12345-IG -P28A/L-SDG/C -ZZZZ1500 -N0110A040 OBK DCT RFD DCT PLL -KCID0120 -DEP/ 3CK LAKE IN THE HILLS) GA flight planes are simple. If you need help call your local FSS. You can do it yourself.

Several years ago, I had flown to Canada. They were using this form. I had to "Seek Profesional Help" to fill it out. After we use it for a while, it should get easier. Recently, I filed by phone to Flight Service for the rental plane I was using. Flight service asked several questions about the ADS-B-out onboard this plane. The owner was not available to supply that info. Thanks for your detailed presentation.

@@joestandley it is but I think its cause we arent use to it yet. I've filed 2 IFR plans with the help of your video and I had no issues. I dont use Foreflight cause I'm a cheap ass so I file via 1800wxbrief.com in think my biggest worry was making sure I picked the right equipment but I think a good rule is if your not sure dont put it. For example I didn't want to put DME because I wasnt sure if the Garmin 430 (even though it does display distance) counted. I guess in use to DME being for ground based nav aid (ILS, VORTAC) anyone that can confirm let me know. Thanks.

This handy dandy form has already prevented me from filing one flight plan. I was making a quick flight a couple towns over and 1800wxbrief.com gave me this form to fill out. I struggled through most of it until I hit "flight type," which is just a bunch of letters with no explanation of what they mean. I chose to send a text message to my sister instead, telling her where I'd be. I don't want to accidentally fill out the letter for "terrorist mission" and get myself shot down. This is incredibly obtuse for such a simple thing. Sometimes they give you a letter and you cross it out if it *does not* apply. Other times they give you an empty box and you fill in an unspecified letter if it *does* apply. Looks a lot like a form that was designed by people who will never have to use it.
