I quit at purple. Might go back at some point, but the pains, constant aching and continuous rolls with kids in their 20’s became too much for me to endure. Switched to Boxin

This is dope! Gonna test it out! Granted, I found your video while looking for a "Calf slicer counter" when someone else (on the bottom) is fully engaged in the normal X-guard position. I know it exists, but I forget how it works. Basically, the guy on top loops one of his arms under the bottom guy's leg and does a forward roll, and ends up in a calf slicer. If ya'll remember how to do that, would love to see it as well!

Another big reason that I heard on a podcast is that there are a lot of people that train at the wrong gym. When they started the gym was right for them but now they should move on to another gym because of various reasons. Or what the podcast speaker said happens even more frequently....,the jiu jitsu practitioner starts at the wrong gym and tries to force the gym to conform to their needs when they should move on to a better gym, or start a jiu jitsu club.

After a year you should be able to handle yourself on the ground well enough. Anything more than a year is not helpful unless you're into the sport.

We gave blue belts based on skill at my academy sometimes it’s one year sometimes it’s a couple depends on the skill and knowledge absorption also if u don’t know any helio Gracie self defense u will never get blue belt at our gym we do let white belts roll though and we train with strikes

I’m a blue belt who stopped training due to the military.. I went to a few training maybe once every 6-12 months for the last 12 years.. now I’m 2 months back in.. still wear my blue but wasn’t sure if I was supposed to wear it due to being in a new school.. just had to prove my skills and get back my endurance..

Spot on. I quit as a 4 stripe white belt after my 2nd daughter was born. 60-70 hour work week, a 6 year old and newborn baby at home was just too much. Something has to give. Life happens.

I think far too many beginners focus way too much on winning rolls, submissions and chokes vs improving learning about the positions, their personal strengths and weaknesses' in said positions, they don't develop their guards correctly, guard passing, retention, take downs/defenses, grip fighting, throws, sweeps etc. There is SO much to learn and improve on as a Blue belt. Quitting is really just a way of saying, I don't want to learn or put any effort into trying anymore to progress. I am about a year as a Blue belt, was a White belt for FIVE YEARS (1.5 years out due to Covid lockdowns) and I still have a lot to learn. I have zero problems with that and am eager to see where my progress will be in a year or two from today. BJJ is the long game, a marathon, not a sprint and I believe far too many people do not respect or appreciate their own personal growth and journey.
