Can I create a layer/performance with 4 voices on 4 different MIDI channels, one of them being a drum kit? Use case: sequencing with a DAW. Recording one track after another and then playing the whole arrangement back on the MPS M1. Cheers

Dear Kurzweil, please keep the small screen and current workflow. The free Soundtower editors are more than enough if additional help is needed with programming. Touch screens have been repeatedly demonstrated to be obnoxious on other synths.

Hi, thx for the tuto ! After 1 year using my pc4 I begon to use it fluently. Still there are things I'd like to solve: I'm using an external midi organ foot pedal (13 notes). I create my multi, create zone 5, set my pedalboard to emit on ch. 5, set in the multi main page the input channel to (5 M). Then I want to use slider 5 to control the volume, and button 5 to mute. But then the enter quick select doesn't work anymore, and setting slider 5 manually is possible but results in no effect. What should I do ? Also, how do I erase all midi assignations in order to create just a 9 track mixing desk on the sliders ?

Dear Kurzweil, Please put a big touch screen on it next time and modern Synth Leads, Pads and Motion synths. The UI is from LCD age. Otherwise it is a great synth keyboard.

Can Kurzweil release an updated, light and lower budget Kurzweil SP4-7? I like the idea of using a single knob to alter the sound or layer/split volume balance or morphing between sounds like Yamaha’s Montage.

Sounded really nice but the treble seems a bit bright and brittle. Traditional Kurweil piano tone is more neutral or slightly warmer and smoother tone.

Is it also possible to play loops, vocal phrases from the pads?

Thank you! I always saw pads as being little more than toys and this kinda confirmed it. They are fun and seem to be useful at first but really they aren't. The biggest problem is that they are always on the right hand side, so whatever I'm programming on them I have to stop playing on the keys with my right hand to trigger it. So that's a serious amount of shiny and fancy technology which makes this otherwise great keyboard cost even more, while I can count on one hand the situations in which these pads could come in handy. And ion most of those cases I can solve the problem a lot better by other means, especially since I am a prog rock musician and a film composer and I like to play my sounds myself and not relegate the job to R2D2. Also, I don't quite understand why Kurzweil is sticking to the pitch wheel-mod wheel combo. I used a K2600 for a long time and I loved it but I always found joysticks to be far more intuitive and without the risk of grabbing one instead of the other in a live situation where for instance you are momentarily blinded by a stroboscope. But maybe that's just me, I don't know. And VAST seems to be incredibly complicated. Not impossible to understand and work with, but there were times when I had to figure out with my K2600 in which sub-menu of which sub-menu I was. And it took me ages to figure out how can I switch to the next patch in Quick Access using a footswitch Jordan Rudess style, if I'm also using multis. To say that the solution was counter-intuitive is an understatement. Now that I have to replace my K2600, I'm on the fence. This one is still on the short list but unfortunately not in first position, not even in second position.

I am amazed by the fact that Kurzweil designed a very user friendly user interface and shortcuts to access various functions this complex system. It is not a😊 touch screen, it is small and the design is basic but this maybe it. Like people preferring physical knobs in cars instead of touch screens

I bought myself a kurzweil km88, the keys are good, but the joystick gives out extra commands, as a result, the settings of the analog synthesizer (moog slim phatty) get lost. I did a factory reset, downloaded a new firmware, it doesn't help.

On another note. It would really be helpful if you employ specialist who know how to write manuals. For the KaP1 no manual resources available at the moment on your webpage. The manual for instance for the KaE1 is there, but leaves a lot to be desired. It does not really explain when activating the +/- buttons to get another variation of the instrument in a specific bank wether to press - or + to have an instant changes. Has to be done by ear and not so convenient. Manual also does not explain the stepping of effects like REVERB and CHORUS as there is no visual feedback. One has to click endlessly to hear. Even though I like the user inteface in general (all sounds quickly accessible) there a a few things which could have been done better. Also missing a volume control for playback of own recorded song => e.g. recording a piece (e.g. string layer etc...), then playing it back and playing along with a Piano sound. That works nicely except the VOLUME of the recorded playback cannot be changed and you have to play pretty hard against the playback. That should be easily to implement by using e.g. Function and then +/- keys during playback of recorded own track. I think it will be very similar with the KaP1 as they share the same platform and mostly main PCB except more sample memory to accomodate the better sounds, perhaps a faster CPU to handle 256 polyphony instead of 128 of the KaE1 and of course the display which I think is very helpful. The Bass/Treble controls of KaE1 and KaP1 is really super helpful and very practical.

Hi there, nice. However let me remark one thing though. The BT connection on the Ka Series allows Audio & Midi which is fine as the Ka series then can serve as a Midi device, soundcard etc. Very handy. Unfortunately the omission of a 5-DIN Midi connector is not so nice as then you'd need another USB-to-Midi interface (another 50$ at least) so to control off board synthesizers. Also the omission of any control app (IOS/ANDROID/PC) to finetune the KA series is not so nice. I noticed that for instance connecting an iPad via BT and then playing other instruments (we are talking Midi here, not Audio) the latency is crazy high. In fact not usable at all. I replicated that for instance on a Roland FP30X and that worked without any noticable latency, thus was nice to then employ other instuments (e.g. NUMA player). That was not the case with the Ka series. I estimated a delay of at least around >100ms which is unusable for real time playing. Using a USB connection (same thing here but this time a PC) worked then flawlessly. Ergo, the BT implementation and protocol version is perhaps not up to today's standards. Considering we are in 2024 that is hard to understand. Perhaps you can already advise on the pricing of the KaP1? I am trying hard to find it here in Europe and no dealer (the big ones I mean) are even having info from their distributors. Only the KaE1 made it into the stores (the one I purchased recently). An instrument I really like because of the keybed and the general sound quality. Must say though that the inbuilt speaker system is not really up to par in comparison to my FP30x. But as I run studio monitors anyway is not such an issue. On the Ka series you really nailed the ePiano very nicely (ePiano and Bank activated (hence ePiano 2). Hope the KaP1 has a better Grand Piano sound vs the KaE1 (bigger samples as I can read). I like the KaE1 Pinao 1 sound but you can hear the looping at the end if you have good ears. But in general it sound not bad at all. I hope the KaP1 with its bigger sample takes that even a few notches further.
