They should reopen the line from skelton junction to Carrington. This train could take a few trucks off the road carrying waste from Broadheath to Northenden. Nice vid 👍

The majority of stone trains are to and from the Peak District. Empties head towards the Peak, loaded head away to places like the Midlands (for HS2 I presume). The bin trains are Bredbury to Runcorn to Northenden (Freightliner) and Knowsley to Witton (DB Schenker I think). The loaded Biomass trains work from Liverpool port to Drax in Yorkshire.

Cracking video! To me, this is both the most interesting and annoying part of the mid ches - its very unique compared to the rest of the network, however, the single line with low speed limit means its a bit of a bottleneck at times. If I had a penny for every time I've been on a Chester-bound train and had to wait outside of Deansgate Jnc for another Northern, I'd have enough money to move to Stockport and never use the line again😆
@sparkynl12712 ай бұрын
and it's frustrating in terms of the fact that the majority of the workings are from the south so if it's sunny that is a challenge. Additionally, there is limited help on RHTT and other sites with regards train updates between Northenden Junction and Hartford or Middlewich. With freights running early or late it is common to miss a working without knowing! This happened to me today as I was waiting at Lostock Gralam for a freight, which had passed 1 minute before I arrived!

My memories of Skelton Junction go back to the very early 1960s. My friends and i used to trainspot through the gate that was left open by the on duty signalman who occupied and very tall signal box right next to Moss Lane bridge on the side of the three track junction. 8Fs, weekend diverted Pines Express, 4MT tank engines going to Warrington were commmon place. We used to place old penny coins on the track to have them flattened by the locos and trains they were pulling.
@Sparkynl3 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing those memories. I presume the signal box was like the one that still stands at Northenden Junction?
@michaelpilling96593 ай бұрын
Sorry but I have no knowledge about the box at Northenden Junction. The box at Skelton Junction was tall enough to see over the top of Moss Lane gridge
@Sparkynl3 ай бұрын
If you have a look through my videos, the ones at Northenden Junction include the tall signal box that is over Longley Lane. I suspect the one by Moss Lane would have been very similar.

Hi, great video, do you have a date for the 66 at Stoney Bridge hauling the 3 loaded limestone hoppers, please? Just wondered if it was mid-January 2024 or not thanks. Cheers Paul
@sparkynl12713 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, just looked it up it was filmed on 19/01/2023. BTW the I am working my way down the Mid Cheshire line, I filmed at Northwich for the second time last week, I am fairly sure you will be making a guest appearance on that particular film as I was talking to you on Northwich station on my previous visit last year when 47830 passed through. I also visited the Middlewich branch for the first time on the visit last week to check out possible spots to film, I notice you have some good shots in the Cheshire Railways facebook group which match up to the spots I visited. I hope to go back in March to Northwich. 🙂

Fabulous footage, thanks for sharing. I first visited this location in the late 70s, bunking off work, and it was an incredibly busy place. At that time, the route through to Latchford was still open and this saw the majority of traffic. The Fiddlers Ferry - Yorkshire MGR trains all came this way, always hauled by a 47, but there was loads of other trains usually hauled by 40s or class 25s. Occasional tank trains came down from Shell at Carrington heading for Ellesmere Port, and these would use the now redundant loop seen in the opening sequence for the locos to run round. I used to park up just to the right of the over bridge seen in the background here - there was much less vegetation then and I had an unobstructed view up to the junction. The clattering semaphore signals gave plenty of warning of an approaching train. Oddly enough, the only route open today is the one which saw least use back then. The only trains which I saw use it regularly were the ICI company trains from Tunstead to Northwich, always in the charge of a single class 25. Happy days, oh for a time machine....

That shouldn’t be happening on open railway wagons where the limestone dust is blowing about
@BritishRail600624 ай бұрын
Maybe the wagons could be retrofit with cover doors on top to stop this happening.
